Obituary for Johnny G. Romero

Johnny G. Romero, age 80 of Amarillo, passed away on February 20, 2018 in Amarillo.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1:00p.m. Friday, February 23 at St. Mary’s Cathedral. Entombment will follow in the Llano Cemetery Garden Mausoleum under the guidance of Lighthouse Funeral and Cremation Services of Amarillo.

The family will receive friends from 1:00-9:00p.m. Thursday, February 22 at Destiny’s Garden, 1134 E Loop 335 South, with recitation of the Holy Rosary beginning at 6:00 pm.

Johnny was born on January 8, 1938 in Rosebud, TX to Augustine and Eusebia Romero, and was raised in New Deal, TX. He married Mary Rubio on February 11, 1958, and moved to Lubbock. In 1970 they moved to Hereford, TX where he worked as a farmer until 1981. They moved to Amarillo following that where he worked for Grant Construction, and later J. Lee Milligan until he retired in 2007.

Johnny enjoyed the outdoors, welding projects, and working on his cars and lawn. He was a kind hearted, hard working man who delighted in spending time with his family and friends. He was well respected by all who knew him, and loved life and his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend, and will be greatly missed by all.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Romero of Amarillo; his children, Margie Scroggins and husband Randy of Hereford, Larry Romero and wife Heather, Eddie Romero and wife Lupe, and Martha Ruiz all of Amarillo; 8 siblings, Frances Gonzales of Dallas, Victoria Fabila of Idalou, Jessie Romero of Dallas, Geneva Romero of Dallas, Pete Romero of Allen, Gloria Martinez of China Springs, Carolin Vela of Temple, and Augustine Romero Jr. of Bell mead; his stepmother, Gloria Romero of Waco; 14 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, and his dog Boomer.
