Donald Wayne Altman, of Amarillo, passed away August 21, 2019.
Donnie was born on November 4, 1937, in Amarillo, to Frank C and Gladys Altman, and was a lifetime resident of Amarillo and graduated Amarillo High in 1956.
He married Mattie Lee Van Huss on March 30, 1957, and had 3 children, Daryl, Dennis and Douglas.
Don attended Amarillo College and West Texas State University. Don began his career in the early days of data processing, working as data processing manager for First National Bank of Amarillo. Don later worked for IBM in Amarillo, and then finished his career with Region 16 Education Service Center, where he retired.
Don was an avid Texas Tech Enthusiast and was a Football Season Ticket Holder for over 30 years. He had also recently become a big “Sod Poodles” fan. Don was very devoted to his family and was considered “Dad” by many, many neighborhood children. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Gladys; his wife, Mattie Lee; and a son, Dennis Warren Altman.
His surviving relatives include sons, Daryl Wayne and wife Donna, Douglas William and wife Tiffany; his sister – in – law, Margret Stephens of Woodbridge, VA.; Don had three granddaughters, Danette Fisher and Kimberly Johnson of Amarillo and Bailey Reynolds of Eauclaire, WI.; Don also had eight great- grandchildren, Zachary, Hudson, Landon, Teigan, Cooper, Jada, Jordan, and Janae, all of Amarillo.
Honorary Pallbearers will be his grandsons Zachary Castillo, Hudson Fisher, Teigan High and Cooper Johnson.
A celebration of his life will be at 6:00 p.m., Tuesday August 27, at the home of his granddaughter, Kimberly Johnson, at 7402 Tacoma Drive.
