Obituary for Jones Dale Oliver

Jones Dale Oliver, of Amarillo Texas, flew home Tuesday at 7:37pm to be with his Lord and Savior.

Jones was born in Boone, North Carolina on April 21, 1942 to Luther and Margaret Oliver. He was the baby of the family with four older siblings: John Oliver, L.C. Oliver, Christine Critcher, and Frankie Stokes. He was first and foremost a Godly man. At the age of 15 Jones was baptized at Oak Grove Baptist Church in North Carolina. He enlisted in the Airforce in 1960 and served as mechanic for seven years where he was given the nickname “Dobie”. Some of his duty stations included France and Florida.

After the service he continued his trade as a welder installing the safety railing at Tweestie Railroad. His love of Ford began when working at the Ford Dealership. Jones had many hobbies in life including welding, building and racing hot rods. As an avid drag racer, he won a National Event at the Bristol Motor Speedway.

Later in life he worked for W&L Trucking and retired from Sunbelt Trucking, putting in 35 plus years on the highway. “Welding Rod” was his CB handle and he was a true professional in every sense of the word. Truck driving allowed him to meet people across the nation. Every person he met became a friend to him. It was either his passion of trucking or of eating out at restaurants that led him to the love of his life, Elaine Oliver. Jones and Elaine dated for thirteen years and finally married February 5, 1993 in Amarillo, Texas.

Jones was a man of routine; he loved to read his bible and play his guitar. He was the anchor of the family and would turn every day conversations into teachable moments. No one realized that we were making memories, we just knew we were having fun. It did not matter if you only knew him for five minutes or five years, all walked away realizing just how special of a man he was. He enjoyed joking around with friends and family and was a true observer of everything around him. He believed in doing things the right way the first time and truly taking pride in all you do. Even though he is not with us anymore, his memory and legacy lives on in all of us. Jones loved his family above all else, and made sure each and every one felt loved and wanted. We as his family and friends have been blessed beyond measure to have someone like Jones in all our lives. He will be deeply missed by all.

He was proceeded in death by his mother and father, his two brothers John and L.C. and one sister Christine.

He is survived by his wife Elaine, sister Frankie and husband Len of Boone, NC, his daughter Shannon Oliver of Indian Trail, NC, son Rick Oliver and wife Lisa of Jacksonville FL, son Russ Crandall and wife Janette of Amarillo TX, and daughter D’Lesa Wagoner and husband Brian of Amarillo TX. Grandchildren include: Corey Wagoner, Anna Wagoner, Brooklyn Oliver, Zach Crandall, Jordan Bell, and Nichole Crandall. He is also survived by an extended family – the Swartz’s.

A celebration of life service will be held Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at 2:00pm at Crossroads Country Church in Amarillo, Texas.

For family and friends who could not attend, a second celebration will be held in Boone, NC at a later date. Further details to come.
