Michael David Mackey, known by his closest family and friends as David, went home to be with the Lord on March 2, 2019 at the age of 64. He was born August 21, 1954 to Archie and Betty Mackey in Andrews, Texas.
David retired from Warren CAT in 2016, where he worked as a heavy machinery mechanic. Always the great outdoorsman, he loved fishing, camping and hunting. One of his greatest adventures was moving his family to Alaska, where he worked on the North Slope. Some of David’s favorite things included sweet tea, t-shirts with pockets, John Wayne and road trips with his wife.
David was known for his sense of humor and especially his off the wall expressions. He is surely somewhere in heaven “Standing on his head, stackin’ BBs.” David loved working with his hands and instilled that same joy of creating, fixing and tinkering to his children, making the family motto “I could make that.”
David is survived by his wife, Rochelle Mackey. A son, Bryan Mackey, daughters, Mandy Thackerson (husband Matt), Misty Pulliam (husband Josh), and Megan Mackey (Arnold Escobar), and two step-children Kenny Wilkinson (wife Kelbi) and Kerri Wilkinson (Scott Read). Grandchildren Michaela Mackey, Reese, Rylan, Emma and Roxie Thackerson, AnnMarie, Graham and Lilly Pulliam, Benji Sisk, Jaidon Phommyvong, Ayden and Mason Burkett. A brother, Tim Mackey (wife Betty) and sisters, Linda Harris (husband Aubrey) and Michele Lively (husband Jason).
A celebration of life will commence on Saturday, March 30th at 3:00 p.m. at Viewpoint Event Center, 5000 Viewpoint Ave, Amarillo, TX 79124.
