Shirley Smith Hawks, 91, passed away at home in Amarillo on November 23, 2018.
She was born to Marie and Drew Smith in 1927 in Lesley, Texas, one of eight children. She taught school in Stinnett during World War II and married Byron Hawks in 1948. They spent many years in the oil business near Spring Creek and after obtaining a BA in education from WTSU, she taught 2nd grade and was very active in the Spring Creek School. After retiring, she lived in Borger, then Amarillo for many years.
She is survived by daughters Cindy, Hilarie, and Robyn and sisters Sue Carter, Lou Mayo, and Liz Padgett and a multitude of nieces and nephews.
Shirley touched many lives with her grace, kindness, and laughter and will be sorely missed on this earth.
In lieu of flowers or food, memorial donations to the High Plains Food Bank will be appreciated. Services will be at a later date and arrangements are under the guidance of Lighthouse Funeral and Cremation Services.
