Velma Luvina Cowan

Velma Luvina Cowan, 92, of Amarillo, passed away on March 13, 2021. She was born January 11, 1929, in Catoosa, Oklahoma to Oscar and Oma (Smith) Griffin.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 19, 2021 at New Beginnings Church, located at 1400 SW 8th Street in Amarillo. Interment will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Hillcrest Cemetery in McLean. Arrangements are under the personal care of Lighthouse Funeral and Cremation Services of Amarillo.

Velma truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures, writing poems and spending time with her family. She was the most kind-hearted woman you could meet and never turned anyone away in their time of need.

Velma was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Oma Griffin; her husband, Charles Cowan; her children, Elizabeth, Leonard Ray, Jimmy Dawn, Billy Jean, Tracy, Brenda, Donna, Charles, and Danny, and her twin-sister, Thelma Schmidt.

Those left to cherish her memory are her four daughters, Patricia Sparrow, Maudie Hemby, Twana Cowan, and Rhonda Thompson; two sons, Jimmy Cowan, and Donnie Cowan; three brothers, Tracy Cooper, Sammy Cooper, and Jerry Cooper. She is also survived by over 50 grandchildren; over 70 great-grandchildren, and several great-great grandchildren.

    Prayers for peace and comfort for the family of this sweet and giving lady!! I know she struggled thru life to provide for her family, and did it with a loving heart and no complaints ❣️
