Michael Alton Huntington

With heartfelt sorrow, we announce the peaceful passing of Michael Alton Huntington on November 20, 2023. Born on August 15, 1939, in Detroit, MI, to Alton Huntington and Lois Rheingans, Michael was a loving, ambitious, funny, and generous soul whose life was a testament to the transformative power of faith and the enduring strength of family love. His laughter, wisdom, and warm embrace will be dearly missed, but his legacy will continue to shine in the hearts of all who knew him.

Michael’s life was an extraordinary journey marked by remarkable accomplishments and deep personal growth. He was a successful executive in the communications industry, where his ambitious spirit and telecommunications acumen made him a recognized leader. However, his most cherished achievement was his beautiful family.

He was a loving husband to Anne Huntington, whom he married on August 27, 1988. He was a proud father to Jennifer, David, Debbie, Daniel, Jason, Christian, Marnie, Kelly, Noah, and Mikki, and a caring brother to Linda and Judy. Michael’s life was enriched by the love and joy shared with his family, whom he considered his greatest accomplishment.

At 17, after watching a Billy Graham Crusade on television, Michael gave his heart to Jesus and became a born-again Christian. His faith profoundly influenced the rest of his life, filling it with purpose, joy, and a strong desire to serve others. As the Bible says in Matthew 5:16, “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” Michael did just that. His later life was filled with ministerial roles that brought him as much joy as he gave, and his generosity touched countless lives in his community.

We invite you to join us in celebrating and honoring the life of Michael Huntington. Please share your memories, stories, and photos on his memorial page. Your contributions will serve as a comforting reminder of the love and happiness Michael brought into our lives. In the words of 1 Thessalonians 4:13-14, “But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope. For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep.” Michael’s light will continue to shine brightly in our hearts, and his spirit will live on in the love and faith he instilled in each one of us.

A Funeral Service honoring Michael’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 22, 2023, at Hillside Christian Church, N.W. Campus, 600 Tascosa Road, Amarillo, Texas.  Interment will follow at Llano Cemetery East, (Corner of 34th and Arthur) in Amarillo.
