Cayetana Torres, 87, of Amarillo, passed away on November 1, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.

Cayetana, who tenderly went by Tanita by her beloved family and friends. She was married to her late husband for 59 years. Tanita was known for her unwavering determination, love and support for her family. She had a strong love for music as her dad played the guitar on buses and sometimes would take her with him. He tenderly called her “mi amor chiquito” as he would sing that song to her. One of her most fond memories was when her mom would send her to the store with only 5 cents to buy one tomato, one garlic, and sopita. Her mom would make this, and it was the best meal ever as she said, “I never felt poor because I was so happy sharing this meal with my family.” Tanita will be missed by all who got to know her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Librado Chacon and Asuncion Chacon; her husband Jesus Manuel Torres; a grandson, Silvano Divier Chacon; a sister, Maria de Jesus Chacon, and four half-sisters.

She is survived by a brother, Felipe Chacon; a son, Jesus Martin Torres; daughters, Telma Mendoza, Edelmira Chacon, Rafaela Chacon, Leovigilda Torres, and Elda Torres; two grandchildren that she raised, Jonathan Zuriel Torres, and Sandra Lizbeth Torres; 19 grandchildren, and 34 great-grandchildren.

A Rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 6, 2024, at Lighthouse Funeral Home Chapel, 3707 Wolflin Ave., Amarillo.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 7, 2024, at St. Laurence Catholic Church, 2300 N. Spring Street., Amarillo. Interment will follow at Llano Cemetery East, 34th and Arthur.

Cayetana Torres, de 87 años, de Amarillo, falleció el 1 de noviembre de 2024, rodeada de su amorosa familia.

Cayetana, a la que cariñosamente llamaba Tanita su querida familia y amigos. Estuvo casada con su difunto esposo durante 59 años. Tanita era conocida por su inquebrantable determinación, amor y apoyo a su familia. Tenía un gran amor por la música, ya que su padre tocaba la guitarra en los autobuses y a veces la llevaba con él. Él la llamaba cariñosamente “mi amor chiquito” mientras le cantaba esa canción. Uno de sus recuerdos más gratos fue cuando su mamá la enviaba a la tienda con solo 5 centavos para comprar un tomate, un ajo y sopita. Su mamá lo preparaba, y fue la mejor comida de su vida, como ella dijo: “Nunca me sentí pobre porque estaba muy feliz compartiendo esta comida con mi familia”. Tanita será extrañada por todos los que la conocieron.

Le precedieron en la muerte sus padres, Librado Chacón y Asunción Chacón; su esposo Jesús Manuel Torres; un nieto, Silvano Divier Chacón; una hermana, María de Jesús Chacón, y cuatro medias hermanas.

Le sobreviven un hermano, Felipe Chacón; un hijo, Jesús Martín Torres; hijas, Telma Mendoza, Edelmira Chacón, Rafaela Chacón, Leovigilda Torres y Elda Torres; dos nietos que crió, Jonathan Zuriel Torres y Sandra Lizbeth Torres; 19 nietos y 34 bisnietos.

Se rezará un rosario a las 6:00 p.m. el miércoles 6 de noviembre de 2024, en la capilla de la funeraria Lighthouse, 3707 Wolflin Ave., Amarillo.

La Misa Funebre se llevará a cabo a las 10:00 a.m. el jueves, 7 de noviembre de 2024, en la iglesia Catolica de San Lorenzo, 2300 N. Spring St. Amarillo. El entierro seguirá en el Cementerio Llano, calle 34 y Arthur.
