Alice Catherine “Cathy” Taylor, 76, of Amarillo, passed away peacefully in her sleep, surrounded by her family, on January 17, 2026, after a brief hospice stay.  Born October 25, 1949, to Virgie and Clyde Pankey in Pecos, Texas, Cathy graduated from Pecos High School and went on to study English at Alpine College.

After a brief marriage with Andrew Clair Burkhart, she later met her lifelong partner and love of her life, Steve Taylor, in Clovis, NM. They married on May 9, 1977, moving to Hereford, Texas, where they raised their beautifully blended family.

Cathy was known for her expert sewing skills. She made all her girls’ clothing for years and sold men’s western shirts as well to help support her growing family.

She loved to read, enjoyed baking, and bike riding in the evenings with her family. She loved spending time outside watering her yard while watching her girls play. She was a die-hard Yankees fan and devoted Dallas Cowboys fan. (You didn’t want to be caught standing in front of the tv when either game was on.) She had a love of games, particularly a passion for poker. She enjoyed visiting the casino, where she could spend hours on the slot machines, one nickel at a time, while socializing with the patrons around her. She was fortunate enough to be able to watch live horse races in 2024, which was number one on her bucket list of things to experience.

Cathy is preceded in death by her husband, Steve Arlin Taylor. Her mother and father, as well as two brothers, Steve Pankey and Robert Guess.

Cathy is survived by her brother James Clyde Pankey of Stillwater, OK, and her sister Gail Marie Davis of Hereford, TX. Her daughters: Leslie Funk, Christie Barrett and her husband Chris Barrett, Jessica Bristol and her husband Anthony Bristol, all of Amarillo, Stephanie McAnear and her husband Russell McAnear of Hereford, and Melissa Taylor and Tammy Moses of Seven Springs, NC. She was blessed with 12 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

Graveside Services are set for noon on Thursday, January 22, 2026, at the Friona Cemetery.
