Amanda Shumate, 38, of Amarillo, passed away on December 28, 2025. She was born in Amarillo on June 27, 1987, to Donna Shumate.
Amanda loved to sing and dance and was quite skilled at both. She enjoyed making people, especially her mother, smile and laugh. She would act silly and goofy just to put a smile on her mother’s face.
She loved animals, especially the biggest, fattest, fluffiest boy cat she could find. Amanda had a passion for making people “feel pretty.” She loved makeup and loved to “fix you up.” She hoped to be a cosmetologist.
Most importantly, Amanda found God. She read the Word of God and studied the Bible. Whenever her mother worried about where she was or what she was doing, Amanda would tell her, “Don’t worry, Jesus is with me. He will take care of me. You need to believe that.”
Amanda was the light of her mother’s life. She had a huge heart and was very compassionate about so many things. She stood up for who she believed in and for the things that were important to her.
She was strong and so brave. She was a fighter.
Amanda was preceded in death by her great-grandparents, Iva and Ella Shumate of North Carolina, and Clyde and Margie McGee, of Vernon, Texas; her grandmother, Billie Jean “Jeannie” Shumate of Amarillo; her domestic partner, Hector Oliver Govea, of Dallas, and son, “Legend” Daxton Shumate, of Dallas.
She is survived by her mother, Donna Shumate and her domestic partner, Enrika Rangel; her children, Brison Shumate, and Cherish Govea Shumate; grandfather Ted Shumate and wife Sandy; uncle and aunt, Scott and Deana Riley; uncle Bill Shumate; cousins, Brandon Riley and wife Danielle, Ashley Longbine and husband Terry, Bo Shumate and wife Nicole, Devvin Shumate and wife Kristen, and numerous second cousins and extended family.
Instead of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to drug and alcohol recovery programs or to homeless programs in Amanda’s honor.
My deepest condolences to you and yours precious Donna! I love you deeply, always have. I will make a donation to Recovery Programs My son just got out of rehab and is 90 sober. I don’t get to see him yet but someday hopefully. I’m praying for you🙏🏻❤️
I had the privilege of knowing Amanda as a cute, bubbly and precious toddler. I will never forget her and cherish the memories. Go fly sweet, pretty girl!

My heart aches for you sister but I am confident that she is in Heaven and all life’s struggles are no longer! She is at her best and I will never forget my precious niece.

I had the privileged to have known Amanda when she came to investigate The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I love her smile and her way she laughed. I will always remember her. I had found her photos of her baby shower of her last child Cherish Rose Govea Shumate. My condolences to you and the family. Rest In Peace
