Barbara Allen was born October 27, 1939, in Vale, Oregon to Harvey Barnes and Snow Tollett. Barbara passed peacefully at home with family after a long illness on May 27, 2026, at the age of 86 in Amarillo, Texas.
Barbara loved her children and was proud of them. She also loved to travel to the mountains and collect beautiful things such as dolls, antiques and rocks. She worked as a waitress most of her life in Amarillo, Texas. She worked hard but played harder. May she rest in peace.
Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Durward (Duke) Allen, her parents, Harvey Edward Barnes and Snow Tollett, her brothers, Melvin Eugene Barnes and Donald Edward Barnes, a sister, Carolyn Marie Luttell (Barnes,) a niece, Gigi Morgan Robert Evans, and a grandson, Kevin Dean Hodges.
Left to cherish her memories are her daughters, Melody Ann Green, Brenda Gail Green, and Leslie Karen Austin, her son, Shannon Dale Brock, 15 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Barbara was my grandmother. When I was little I would go stay with her in New Mexico. She would always make me feel so safe and loved. She showed me Patsy Cline, taught me how to play a mean game of dominoes, & would wake me up with a bowl of her famous cream of wheat and buttery toast. While I hadn’t seen her in quite some time I often reflect of those times. Simple and sweet. I am content knowing she’s no longer in pain. I will forever hold a space for her in my mind and heart.
So tonight I will light a candle, throw on my favorite Patsy record, and teach my dear husband how to play a mean game of dominoes.
