Barbara “Deette” Peterson, 91, of Amarillo, passed away on November 1, 2024. She was born on February 6, 1933, in Mt. Sterling, Illinois.

Deette retired from Maywood Incorporated. She loved traveling to the mountains in Fun Valley, Colorado, with her husband. Deette was always the peacemaker and wanted to keep everyone happy. Deette had a stubborn side to her. She loved to joke and if you didn’t laugh, she would get mad.

She and her best friend, Shirley would spend hours on the phone chatting about soap operas and their pets! Deette enjoyed walking and she did so every day. She stayed in shape because she loved drinking her extra-thick vanilla milk shakes.

She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Deette was preceded in death by her husband, Boyd Peterson; daughter Glinda Stone; her parents, Emil and Mildred Ashbaker; five brothers, one sister, and one son-in-law, Robert Bailey.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Cheryl Kalka and husband Doug, and Cherie Bailey; son-in-law, Tommy Stone; granddaughters Krystal Bippus and husband Kendal, Kershawna Sims, Jessica Chambers and husband Jason, Belinda Grimes and husband Scott; grandson, Marcus Bailey and wife Sadie; 9 great-grandchildren; one brother, Vernon Ashbaker, and her best friend, Shirley Stone.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, at Lighthouse Funeral Home Chapel, 3707 Wolflin Ave., Amarillo, Texas 79102.
