Betty Ketchum

Betty Ketchum, 86, of Amarillo, passed away February 6, 2023, at home surrounded by her family.

She was born June 18, 1936, in Russell, Oklahoma to Ellis and Mertie (Kerbo) McClure.

Betty loved fishing in Eagle Nest Lake and the surrounding streams. She had an award for catching the largest fish in the lake. She worked as the administrator at the Village of Eagle Nest and loved sharing information about her beloved Eagle Nest. She was a member of Moreno Valley Church of Christ and served as the church secretary. She loved feeding the hummingbirds and trying to identify each bird by its colors and song.

Nothing gave her more joy than when her mom and sisters would come visit. They spent hours playing Yahtzee and dominoes. She and her sisters had an unbreakable bond, bound tightly by the deep love of their mom and their Lord Jesus Christ. They were strong Christians who loved God with all their hearts. They instilled that love of Christ to all their children.

Betty moved back to Amarillo to be close to her kids. She loved the weekly lunches and shopping sprees with her daughters and was always ready for a trip to the casino.

She was preceded in death by her mother, and her sisters, Rose, Helen and Juanice.

Those left to cherish her memory are children: Gary and (Kathy)Riley, Jim and (Nancy) Riley, Debbi Grant, Diane Garcia, and Dana and (Chuck) McLaughlin; nine grandchildren include Craig and (Ashley) Riley, Nelson Riley, Nolan and (Saemi)Riley, Erik Massengale, Stacey and (Jeff) Verley, Shane and (Misty) Massengale, Jacob and (Sarah) Massengale, Benjamin Garcia and Ryan Grant, and 13 great-grandchildren include Quinn, Carter, John, Lillian, Bryce, Liana, Bailee, Avery, Brenden, Malorie, Braeden, Camryn, and Jaidyn.
