Danny Jay Hersom, born October 5, 1946, and who passed peacefully at home on April 9, 2026, leaves a lasting legacy of love and kindness.

Danny’s life was centered around love—for his family, for music, and for those fortunate enough to know him. From a young age, he and his brothers grew up at Boys Ranch, where his strength and character began to take shape. At 14, discovering George Jones’s music ignited his passion, making country music the soundtrack of his life. He didn’t just listen—he lived it, sharing joy through singing and playing with family and friends, creating memories filled with laughter and music. Imagining him now reunited with the voice he admired offers comfort to many.

Known for his competitive spirit in table shuffleboard, Danny was also celebrated for his heart. He never met a stranger—only friends he hadn’t met yet. His kindness, warmth, and easygoing nature made everyone feel welcome. He loved deeply, and in return, he was deeply loved by many, leaving a lasting impression of genuine care and friendliness.

He was preceded in death by his parents, J.W. Hersom and Wanza Hagood; his brothers, Donnie Hersom and Ronnie Hersom; his beloved granddaughter, Hannah Coates; and his grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Danny leaves behind a legacy of love in his family. He is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Becky Hersom of Amarillo, Texas; his daughters, Kim and husband Jerry Sein of Pryor, Oklahoma, Krystal and husband Jack Morrow of Spearman, Texas, and Kerri and husband Brett Coates of Spearman, Texas; and his “favorite non-son-in-law,” Robby Morrow of Amarillo, Texas. He is also survived by his brother, Norman and wife Annette Hagood of Howardwick, Texas; his sister, Wanda Gutierrez of Amarillo, Texas; and his nieces and nephews: Donald and wife Ruby of Maben, Mississippi; Jason Harris and Flo Garcia of Amarillo, Texas; Brian and wife Mandi Hagood of Canyon, Texas; Christy Peyton of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Bradley and wife Amanda Hagood of Clarendon, Texas; and Jeremy Noyes of Amarillo, Texas. His legacy continues through his grandchildren: Kyle and wife Victoria Hersom; Kala Morrow; Shelbi and husband TJ Vasquez; Justin and wife Cheyenne Roberts; Kolton and wife Bailey Morrow; Kadi Morrow and Eric Vasquez, all of Spearman, Texas; and Brody Coates and Jaemi Saenz of Friona, Texas. He was also blessed with 21 great-grandchildren, each one a source of pride and joy in his life. Danny also leaves behind lifelong friends: Gary Raines of Denton, Texas; Ron and Joann Glover of Hedley, Texas; Roger and Dixie White of Amarillo, Texas; and many other friends too numerous to mention.

A service to honor and celebrate Danny’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 13, 2026, at First Christian Church in the Chapel, 3001 Wolflin Ave., Amarillo, Texas 79109.

Though he may be gone from our sight, Danny’s voice, his laughter, and the love he gave so freely will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. His song is not over—it echoes in every story, every memory, and every note of country music played in his honor. He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
