Delmar Ray Haywood, lovingly known as “Del” to friends and family, born on September 22, 1940, in Bloomfield, Indiana, departed this earthly realm on Sunday, May 4, 2025, and is in the presence of his Lord and Savior. An embodiment of compassion and humility, Del’s life was a testament to his deep love for his family, friends, and community.

Del was a man of passionate dedication and love. His career as a Funeral Ambassador was not just a job but a calling. He understood the value of each life and the importance of honoring every individual’s unique journey. His humble nature and kind heart were his trademark, leaving an indelible imprint on all who were fortunate enough to know him. Del’s most cherished moments were spent with his family, who were the cornerstone of his life. His love story with his wife, Sherron, began on June 12, 1960, and continued to flourish throughout their 65 years of marriage. It was a testament to their devotion and commitment, setting a beautiful example for their son, Jeffery, and their entire family.

Del was a deeply spiritual man, and his faith was an integral part of his life. His devotion was reflected in his active involvement within the Christian community. As it’s written in Matthew 5:16, “In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven,” Del’s life beautifully embodied this verse. He shone brightly, his good deeds touching so many lives, and his legacy will continue to inspire.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Estel and Hilda (Love) Haywood; sisters, Shelba Ooley, Gloria Rector and Rhea May, and a brother, Darrell Haywood.

Del is survived by his beloved wife, Sherron Haywood; his son, Jeffery and daughter-in-law, Laura Haywood; granddaughter, Kelsey Haywood; an “adopted family” who have been like his own children, Jeana Rankin and husband Ron, Deborah Rauh and husband William, and Rolonda Carrington and husband Nathan; 14 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren, as well as a host of colleagues and friends who loved Del and will miss him greatly.

Del’s life will be celebrated with a visitation on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, from 6:00-8:00 pm at the Jubilee Apostolic Church, located at 5804 Erik Avenue, Amarillo, Texas, 79106. A funeral service will be held at the same location on Thursday, May 8, 2025, at 2:00 pm. Arrangements are under the personal care of Lighthouse Funeral Home. Graveside Services, under the direction of Shirley Brothers Mortuary, Indianapolis, Indiana, will be held on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at Greenwood, Indiana, at the Greenwood Cemetery, time to be announced.
