Dennis James Wilson, 69, of Amarillo, passed away on February 13, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in the small town of Vernon, Texas on November 9, 1955, to Don and Tommie Wilson.
The family will receive visitors from 6-8:00 p.m. on Monday, February 17, 2025, at Lighthouse Funeral Home, 3707 Wolflin Ave. A Funeral Service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, February 18, at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, 6969 E. Interstate 40, Amarillo.
Dennis attended Palo Duro High School where he was one of their top wrestlers! He also attended college where he earned a degree as a fitness trainer. He then built a career in sales where became the manager of Kmart and later became the sales manager of Z-93 where he spent many years. Once he retired his career in sales, he worked for TDCJ and then later ended his work life managing the Walmart in Borger.
He was an active member of Paramount Baptist Church where he was loved by so many. His love for people and God proved his heart was bigger than life itself. He was a sarcastic man with the most contagious laugh, and he lived a life doing it all from riding dirt bikes to his real love of powerlifting. He was a heavy lifter in the Powerlifting world. He won so many competitions where he became and still remains an Amarillo legend.
Dennis was preceded in death by his father Don Wilson.
He is survived by his mother Tommie Wilson; his sister Donna Burrier and her husband Kenny; his two daughters, Christy Mitchell and her partner John Adair, and Tina Coppedge and her husband Levi; his six grandchildren Kandice Pierson and husband Cru, Ali Preece and husband Chris, Tatiana Graham and husband Riley, Demi Hinson, Zeke Schaef and Isabelle Coppedge; three great-grandchildren, Paisley, Bennett, Odyn with Jonah on the way. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, friends and we can’t forget his best fur-pal, Rocky.

Well, Unc you did it! You made it home. Please tell Papa hello and give him a big hug for me. I bet it’s beautiful where you are. Thank you for your love, the laughs and many memories I will hold dear to my heart. You are one of a kind and I was so very blessed to call you my Uncle. Nana and your sister miss you so much as we all do. You were a protector and now we’ll take it from here. Thank you Uncle Dennis for everything! I love you and I’ll see you again someday.
I’m saddened to hear we lost an Amarillo Legend. A man of love, and joy. Most of my childhood memories Dennis, and Donna were apart of. He had such a good sense of humor, and an infectious and unforgetable smile. Dennis was a fighter, and has now won the battle! He will be missed dearly by so many!! I will continue to pray for Tommie, Donna, Christy, and all his many friends and family! This is a big loss! Rip Dennis. Gone but NEVER forgotten! 🙏🏼
So sorry to hear the passing of Dennis. He was a great person and a great sales person. He helped make Amarillo radio a lot of fun and competitive. I was with a competitive station at the time and enjoyed competing against him. He had a great smile and laugh. He will be missed. My thoughts and prayers to the family.
