Donald S. Jones, age 90, passed away on January 8, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Don was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and the foundation of his family’s strength.
Don was known for his remarkable work ethic, which began at the age of nine when he shined shoes outside of Kress’s on Polk Street. From that early start, working was never just a job for Don—it was a way of life — it was his hobby. He remained active and industrious throughout his years, never slowing down even after retiring and selling his business, RF Specialties of Texas. In fact, on any given day, you could find him at the FedEx store on Soncy having the workers help him send emails, faxes, and make copies.
His determination, integrity, and dedication were evident in everything he did. Don took great pride in providing for his family and setting an example of perseverance, responsibility, and honesty. Those who knew him admired his reliability and the quiet strength with which he lived his life. Don was a man of deep faith. He loved the Lord and lived his life guided by prayer, humility, and compassion. His faith was a source of strength throughout his life and a comfort to those who knew him.
Above all, Don cherished his family. His legacy lives on through the many lives he touched, the values he passed down, and the love he gave so freely.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Donald Milford Jones and Charlene Delores Jones, and his son-in-law, Michael Fitzgerald of Roanoke, Texas.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Aquanetta Jones; his daughter, Diana White, and her husband, Mark; their son, Ty White, and his wife, Tamara, all of Clarendon, Texas, and their three children (Don’s great-grandchildren), Aiden Burnam, Brantley White, and Ashlynn White. Their son, Trent White, and his wife, Jordan of Decatur, Texas, and their daughter (Don’s great-grandchild), Pecas White. His daughter, Jill Fitzgerald of Roanoke, Texas, and her two children (Don’s grandchildren), Gavin Fitzgerald and Abigail Fitzgerald, and her stepdaughter, Lisa-Marie Fitzgerald and her daughter, Penelope Fitzgerald.
Funeral Services with Military Honors will be held on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel at Hillside Christian Church, 6100 S. Soncy Rd., Amarillo, Texas. Interment will follow at Llano Cemetery.
Don was one of the most loving, caring, honest and responsible persons you will ever meet. He was a great friend to everyone and he shined a light on everything he loved including his family, friends and his work. Don will be a great loss to everyone who knew him.
We will miss him dearly and know he is already in heaven.
What a great life Don lived! Everyone here at the Texas Association of Broadcasters loved working with him and seeing him every year at the TAB Show. Don was truly one of our favorites. He will be missed not only for his broadcast knowledge (that he was happy to share!) but also for his cheery smile and laugh. Many hugs to the family and friends.
Don was a loyal and kind friend. His life was a true blessing to me personally. I first met Don when we met at Grace Community Church to review the broadcast equipment list for the first Christian FM station (KVNE) in Tyler, Texas. Don had such a servants heart and I appreciate him so much. His life was a true gift to all of us over the years. He will have a special place in Heaven for sure.
I was shocked to learn that Don had died. I had a long telephone conversation with Don just a few weeks before he died, and he was just as vivatious as he had always been. We had a long relationship through our RF Specialties Group. He will be greatly missed by many in the Broadcasting industry
