Donnie Wheat, age 72, was born on February 5, 1954, in Amherst, Texas to Arthur Dwain and Doris Lucille (Jones) Wheat. He passed away on February 15, 2026, in Amarillo, Texas.
Donnie was a dedicated and hardworking man who spent 32 years working for Amarillo Road. He was known for his strong work ethic and his incredible ability to fix just about anything. There was never anything broken that he couldn’t repair. He took great pride in working with his hands and helping others whenever they needed it.
He found his greatest joy in spending time with his family, hosting BBQs, tending to the many flowers he planted and cared for, and listening to Bob Dylan, whose music he truly loved. He will be remembered for his steady presence, generous spirit, and practical wisdom. His favorite saying to the kids was, “Act like you been somewhere before,” a phrase that reflected his belief in respect and carrying yourself well.
Donnie is survived by his wife, Carol Adkins Wheat; his mother, Lucille Wheat; his brothers, David Wheat and wife Glenda, and Jerry Wheat; his sisters-in-law, Jaceena Regan and husband Jim, and Brenda and husband Les; his son, Steven Wheat and wife Tanti; his daughters, Mysti Taylor and husband Lonnie, Brandee Wall, and Carissa Terwey and husband James; 10 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; many special nieces and nephews; and extended family, including Vanessa Kelly and family.
Services are pending at this time.
Donnie’s legacy of hard work, love of family, music, and helping hands will be remembered by all who knew him.
