Douglas Vance Morris, 74, of Amarillo, Texas, passed away peacefully, loved, and surrounded by family on June 12th, 2025.

Doug was born on February 8, 1951, in Wellington, Texas. He joined the United States Marine Corps as a teenager and went on to marry the love of his life, Yolanda. After welcoming their first child, Douglas Shane they spent many years moving between California, New Mexico, Arizona, Kansas, and Texas. During that time, Doug worked as an X-ray technician before eventually returning to Texas, where he became a proud member of IBEW Local 602 and built a long career as a Journeyman electrician.

Twenty years after the birth of their first son, Doug and Yolanda welcomed their second son, Zachary, bringing a new chapter of joy and meaning to their lives.

Doug was a big-time storyteller who loved to spin a yarn or share a lighthearted tale. He especially cherished time spent taking his boys fishing, creating lasting memories on the water. He also enjoyed working in the yard, grilling, and tinkering with cars. He was happiest surrounded by family—whether playing games, watching Food Network, or swapping colorful stories.

He had a lifelong love of Westerns and the novels of Louis L’Amour. He also never missed an episode of Jeopardy!—watching it daily and proudly answering more questions right than anyone expected (or could prove otherwise).

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ivory Vance and Lorene Morris; his sisters, Ruthie Poynor and Linda Montgomery, all of Amarillo, Texas; his nieces, Lisa Cross and Terri Huestis; and his great-niece, Marissa Lowe.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Yolanda Gloria Morris; his eldest son, Douglas Shane, wife America, their daughters Shanie and Ava, and their grandchildren Oakley and Lilly; and his youngest son, Zachary Brian, wife Chelsea, and their pups, Luna and Mojo.  He is also survived by his sister, Barbara Cross and husband Richard of Dumas, as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and even great-great nieces and nephews.

Honorary pallbearers include Randy Cross, Steven Pearson, Vance Pearson, Mike Dobbins, Dustin Valdez, Chris Valdez, Michael Melvyn, Karson King, and Leslie King.

Memorial Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, June 20, 2025, at Lighthouse Funeral Home Chapel, 3707 Wolflin Ave., Amarillo, TX.
