Douglas Eugene “Doug” Steinke

Douglas Eugene Steinke, known affectionately as “Doug” to those who loved him, was born on a frosty Christmas Eve in 1974 in McCook, Nebraska. Doug’s journey ended on September 11, 2023, leaving a void in the hearts of those who were privileged to know him.

Doug was a jokester who loved spending time with his family. He and his sons enjoyed working on four-wheelers. He was a handyman and enjoyed tinkering with a variety of yard tools. Doug wasn’t afraid of anything. He never met a stranger because making friends came so easily for him. He enjoyed fishing with his son and enjoyed spending time outdoors.

Doug loved to eat, and his favorite holidays were Thanksgiving and Christmas.  He was a beloved son, father, and friend. He would give the shirt off his back to anyone who needed help.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ronald James Steinke; his aunt, Linda Beardsley; and his beloved dog, Baby.

He is survived by his mother, Debra McKinley and stepfather, Joe McKinley; his four sons, Dallas Steinke and wife Shelby, Dakota Steinke, Adam Phillips and partner, Montana McMurray, and Ronald Steinke, each of whom carry a piece of his indomitable spirit; his sister, Krystal Steinke and husband Jaime Carmona; his brother Robby Vinson and wife, Krista, as well as his ex-wife Kristi Sabatka. He is also survived by his dog, Kool-Aid.

A visitation for Doug will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2023, from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at Lighthouse Funeral and Cremation Services, located at 3707 Wolflin Ave, Amarillo, Texas, 79102.

The funeral service will follow at 6:00 p.m. the same location.

Rest in peace Doug. I remember the night out in Amarillo, you were walking on the side of the road. You had boots, cowboy hat and a trench coat in the rain. One of my many awesome memories. Love, Kristi.
