Eleanor “Elly” Sanchez, age 79, passed away peacefully in the company of her family on February 7, 2026, in Amarillo, Texas. She was born in Embudo, New Mexico, on June 26, 1946, to Eloisa and Samuel George.

In 1973, she was married to Louis Sanchez, Jr. and was a devoted mother, grandmother, and ‘buela. Eleanor and her family moved to Amarillo in 1992, where she remained until her passing. She would utilize her love of cooking and countless holidays to foster a tight-knit family, who will continue to gather and dine in her memory. In her free time, she enjoyed traveling to local bingo halls and casinos across the southwest, where she developed a knack for slot machines.

She was preceded in death by her three brothers and four sisters, as well as her sons, Samuel Sanchez and Frank Griego Jr.

She is survived by her husband, Louis; daughter, Dora (Mark); sons, Ruben (Tracy) and Louis III (Tambra); thirteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; her favorite nieces and nephews; two sisters; and three brothers.

She was a devout Catholic and will be remembered for her love of family, faith, and ‘getting lucky.’

A Rosary will be recited on Thursday, February 12, at 6:00 p.m. at Lighthouse Funeral Home, 3707 Wolflin Ave., Amarillo, Texas. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 13, at the same location.
