It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, Ferneta Sherly Allen, who departed this life peacefully at the age of 87.
Born in 1938, Sherly was the cherished daughter of the late Leslie and Flora Chapman. A God-fearing woman, Sherly lived her life with a deep and abiding faith that guided her every step. Her heart was always open to others whether offering a warm meal, a listening ear, or a helping hand. She touched countless lives with her generosity, kindness, and unwavering strength.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her dear siblings, brothers, Bill Chapman and Edward Chapman, and sisters, Dorothy Gibson and Wilma Schweitzer, as well as a great-grandson Seth Carleton.
She is survived by her three devoted children, Thomas and Chona Cherry, Robert and Renee Cherry, and Linda and Robert Gipson. In addition, she leaves behind ten beloved grandchildren, Michael, Amanda, Steven, Jennifer, Crystal and Kolby, Jimmy and Samantha, Mandy, Anthony and Sarah, and Austin. Her legacy also lives on through twenty great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren, each of whom brought her immeasurable joy.
Sherly found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She loved cooking for her family, sewing with care, reading, solving puzzles, and casting a line while fishing. Her happiest moments were those spent surrounded by family, laughing, sharing stories, and building memories that will live on for generations.
Her legacy of faith, love, and service will remain in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
A Celebration of her Life will be held Thursday, July 24, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Grace Church, 4111 Plains Blvd., Amarillo, Texas 79106.
Sherly (Mom) has been my surrogate mom since I was 12 years old. She let me be a kid at her house and taught me several things that were very useful in life. She taught me to make the best apple pie, she taught me to barter, and to always live life on my own terms. She treated me and my family like they were her own. I love her and I will miss her more than I can say.
What a beautiful person Sheryl was! Always had a smile and I loved to hear her stories and laughter. She loved her family and will be missed 💕
Grandma Sherly was the sweetest person I think I’ve ever known. she showed kindest to everyone who met her and always wore a smile even in the harder times. I have many fond memories of playing at her house growing up and she has given much needed advice as an adult. She will be remembered for always being joyful when us kids were near, her sincerity and the big heart she carried. She was a blessing on mine and many people lives and I will always think of her and love her. May she rest in peace.
I’m so blessed to have Sherly as my mom-in-law . What a beautiful lady she was . She loved us all. From grown kids to grandkids . She will be missed. Her work here on earth is done.
We were her neighbors for several years. My youngest daughter absolutely loved her. I am so sorry to see she has passed prayers for the family..
