Helen Summers Jackson passed peacefully on January 14, 2026, at 11:00 am. She was born January 24, 1933, in Ardmore, Oklahoma, to CS and Dollie Summers.
She graduated from Dickson High School and attended college on a basketball scholarship at Oklahoma State University. Helen married Thomas Jackson on her 18th birthday in 1951. They had four children and adopted two children. They were married for 34 years until he passed away in March of 1985, and she never remarried.
Most of her working career was as a comptroller. At the age of 60, she returned to college and obtained her irrigation license. The rest of her working career was at Love and Son Nursery until she retired at the age of 88.
She enjoyed bowling for most of her adult life, attending several national and state tournaments. She always managed to win enough money to pay for her trips.
Helen did amazing knitting and crochet work, creating beautiful blankets for her grandkids and great-grandkids. She enjoyed sewing and made several prom dresses for her granddaughters. Her door was always open to anyone who needed a place to stay.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Tom; her two sons, Joel Jackson and Ronnie Parker; her sisters Ellen Hardy and Viola Garver; her brother Bill Summers; and her great-grandsons Klayton and Kashton Jackson.
She is survived by three daughters, Carman Smith and husband JD, of Happy, Texas, Amber MacDevitt and husband Kevin of Amarillo, Texas, and Judy DeShazo and husband James; 15 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Helen is also survived by a son, Brice Jackson and wife Carol.
Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 19, at Lighthouse Funeral Home, 3707 Wolflin Ave., Amarillo, Texas.
Sorry for everybody’s loss. May you have a better place in heaven. We will all miss you very much. You were there for everybody, whether they were doing good or bad. You always look out for family. We thank you for everything Miss Helen.
