James Daniel Laughren

James Daniel Laughren, known as Jim by family and friends. Jim, 81, of Amarillo, passed away surrounded by his loving family on April 26, 2024. He was born March 9, 1943, in Ironwood, Michigan.

The family will receive visitors from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Tuesday April 30, 2024, in the Lighthouse Funeral Home Chapel, 3707 Wolflin Ave.

Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 1, 2024, at Memorial Park Cemetery, 6969 East Interstate 40 Highway, Amarillo, Texas.

He was raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin from 1946-1964. Studying physics and math at the University of Wisconsin from 1961-1964. Then joining the U.S. Army military service during the Vietnam War and was stationed in Europe from 1964-1968. Finishing his education studying chemistry & agriculture from 1969-1972 with his bachelor’s degree in agriculture.

In 1976, he married his beloved wife Ann and started a family in New Mexico. Working at various jobs from dairy farming, agriculture lending, and sales. Then he moved to Amarillo where he found his full-time career working as a lab technician at Elementis. He was a hardworking and dedicated husband and father. He would bike several miles to work and back, so that his family could use the only vehicle available at the time. He also raised his family in the church attending three times weekly and made time for family. He had a passion for exercise including walking, biking, swimming, and tennis. In his free time, he enjoyed several hobbies and interests such as science research, chemistry experiments, mathematics, agriculture, dairy farming, and the great outdoors.

James was a man of few words and many actions.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Thomas Laughren, and Svea Laughren; his paternal grandparents, Peter Joseph Laughren and Lydia Marie Laughren; his maternal grandparents, Carl Magnus Johnson and Johanna Olivia Johnson, and his brother, Charles Owen Laughren.

James is survived by his wife, Ann Sue Laughren; children, Serena Laughren, Kurt Laughren,
Kimberly Nadine Laughren, and Patricia Ruth Laughren; grandchildren, Allyssa Nicole Imperial, Cole Joseph Imperial, Saibree Rose Laughren, and Willow Brook Kosser.
