James Elwood Griffin left this world for his heavenly home in the early morning hours of February 4, 2025, just shy of his 84th birthday. James was born and raised in the Delta of Mississippi, later relocating to the Gulfport area. In his married life, his occupation as a procurement specialist in the energy field took him and his young family around the nation. He spent the past 24 years in Amarillo, Texas near his daughter.

James was an avid reader. In his late years he spent many hours in his recliner reading the Bible. He loved to listen to gospel music and had a beautiful singing voice. He was a giving man who loved his family and was loved in return.

James was preceded in death by his parents Ova Monroe Griffin and Sally Safronia Newbaker Griffin, his brothers Ova Monroe Jr., Williard, Dolphus, Woodrow, Albert Ray, William, Aubrey, and his 2 sisters Mattie Mae and Christine.

He is survived by his 3 children Mark Anthony Griffin, Mishona Michele Griffin Stone, and James David Griffin; 8 Grandchildren, Erica Griffin Wheat, Hannah Bainum Pearson, Zachary Phillip Bainum, Mark Anthony Griffin II, Caitlyn Bainum West, Shane Matthew Stone, Cory Douglas Stone, and Stacey Stone Shea; 17 Great Grandchildren, and one brother Lowry Griffin.

The family extends their heartfelt appreciation to the team of Kinder Hearts Hospice and The Craig Sr. Living Memory Care unit for the love and care given James while he was in their care.

The family held a private memorial service at Hillside South Church at 3:00PM February 15, 2025, in honor of Jame’s life.
