It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Jeannette Elaine Shafer. Jeannette was born on October 1, 1967, in Amarillo, Texas and was called home to the Lord, unexpectedly on September 27, 2025.
Jeannette graduated from Tascosa High School in 1985. She spent most of her working years with children. She was a daycare baker for many years, where she made all meals from scratch daily, and then went on to be a daycare teacher. When she was no longer able to work at the daycare, she continued to take care of several children at home.
Jeannette was a member of Rockwell Road Baptist Church for over 30 years. It was with her church that she would ride buses every Sunday to pick up kids all over town. And when she was no longer comfortable driving, her dear friend Susie would come pick her up and take her to church.
Jeannette never married or had children of her own, but she spent her life surrounded by her many nieces and nephews. She spent her years helping to shape and love on all kids. She was happiest with a baby in her arms. She had a special bond with all of her nieces and nephews, but the bond she had with all of her 11 great-nieces and nephews was indescribable.
Jeannette was preceded in death by her mother Helen Wing (Jones); father Jimmy Norton; sister Susan Shafer, and brother Charles Shafer. She is survived by sister and brother-in-law Patricia and Ken Hamilton of Amarillo, sister and brother-in-law Laura and Rick Weatherstine of Cleburne, Texas, and brother and sister-in-law Jack and Judie Shafer of Amarillo, Texas; 8 nieces and nephews; 11 great-nieces and nephews, and 3 great-great-nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be Saturday October 18th at 2:00 p.m. at Rockwell Road Baptist Church. Please wear blue or bright colors in honor of Jeannette.
