Jenny Kay Alewine, 73, of Amarillo, passed away on December 31, 2025. She was born on January 8, 1952, in Paducah, Texas, to Lawrence and Winnie (Allen) Powell.

The family will receive visitors from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Friday, January 2, 2026, at Lighthouse Funeral Home, 3707 Wolflin Ave., Amarillo. Graveside Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at Llano Cemetery East.

Jenny lived a life of service, creativity, and deep devotion to her family and community. She helped raise her brothers and sisters, she met her husband, Dwight, while working at the Old-Fashioned Freeze, and later served as a candy striper at Hall County Hospital in Memphis. She and Dwight raised their daughters in Borger, Texas, and were active members of the Gardner Street Church of Christ. Jenny generously volunteered in the church nursery, helped plan countless weddings and baby showers, and hosted holiday gatherings for church widowers in her home, once welcoming more than 60 guests. She and Dwight also enjoyed fellowship through the supper club.

A talented seamstress and caterer, Jenny lovingly sewed outfits for her four daughters, for preemies’ blankets for newborns, and supplemented the family income through sewing, baking, and catering. She was known for her beautifully decorated wedding cakes, finger sandwiches, and homemade treats. Her passion for special celebrations led her to open Special Occasions, a boutique specializing in weddings, proms, and pageants, bringing the latest fashions from the Dallas Apparel Market to Borger and Amarillo. Jenny also taught as a substitute teacher for many years and extended her caring nature by helping neighbors with foster children.

Jenny took great joy in her grandchildren, who lovingly called her “Nene,” and in raising her youngest daughter, Shainna, ensuring she experienced everything from animals, Girl Scout Camps, and choir. She loved family game nights, especially Phase 10, Skip-Bo, and dominoes, winning her final game of Skip-Bo against Dwight. Known for making everyone feel loved, Jenny ensured family meals always included each person’s favorite dish. Her hobbies—sewing, shopping, auctions, and estate sales—reflected her eye for beauty and her joy in finding the perfect treasure for someone special.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence Powell and Winnie Allen, her sister Judy Eslick, her sister-in-law Pam Buckner, and her sister-in-law Carol Powell.

Jenny is survived by her husband Dwight Alewine; her children Monica Burlingame of Grove Oklahoma, Amanda Alewine and husband Daniel Mercer of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Melissa Alewine, Melanie Alewine, Shainna Alewine, and Bethany Spear, all of Amarillo Texas; her siblings Shayne Powell of Idalou Texas, David Powell of Seguine Texas, Mark Harper of Childress Texas, Lane Harper, and Lisa Quam of Amarillo Texas; her granddaughters Avery Burlingame of Temple Texas, Mackenzie Burlingame of Sand Springs Oklahoma, and Emily Burlingame of Springfield Missouri. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
