Jerry Irene Burnett, 82, of Amarillo, passed away on June 12, 2026. She was born in Shamrock, Texas, to Glen and Jerry (Franks) McCarty.
She spent many years at the racetrack cheering on her favorite Driver #96. She also had a fun-loving side, known for her fondness for shopping trips to Dillard’s, TJ Maxx, and Kohl’s.
She was known for being the backbone of the family. She took care of us all and will be truly missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Glen and Jerry McCarty.
She is survived by her husband, Buddy Burnett; her sons, Jim and Bo; her daughters, Wyndee and Tammy; her grandkids, Tiffany, Jackelyn, Ashley, Randy, Kellie, Staci, Zachary, Reid, Jaryn, Randon, Maddie, and her great-grandkids, Tammy, Pedro, Carlos, Kevin, Nikita, Madison, Paisley, Willow, Lacy, Addison, Bailey, Chloe, Zane, Makenzie, Charlie, Dakkota, Austin, Sarah, Alyssa, Kyper, Kaylor, and Little Luka.
The family will receive visitors on Tuesday, June 16, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Lighthouse Funeral Home, 3707 Wolflin Ave., Amarillo.
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 20, at 6760 Tradewind St., in Amarillo, Texas.
Irene, you held a special place in the hearts of so many. I will always remember the love that you shared for everyone who came in your path. You will live on in our memories as one of the most kind and selfless humans that we have had the pleasure of knowing. Thank you for your love for our family. Our deepest sympathy goes out to your family, friends, and loved ones.
Irene was such a light, a bonus grandma and an amazing person. You will be forever missed ❤️🩹
She was absolutely the back-bone of our family. Since I live all the way in Arizona, Her and I had a lot of long telephone calls over the years. She planned all of our get-togethers, reunions, parties, visits, who got married, divorced, or had babies. She was my life-line to that part of the world & family. I will miss those calls.. We talked any time even into the middle of the night on some occasions. She is really gonna be missed. Irene was not just a sister-n-law. She was more like my own sister.

She was gold and loved by all. When she visited Buster at the hospital he loved having Jaryn and her there. They brought a smile to his face. Thanking her for the memories heaven welcome her with open arms. We were blessed to know her

She was very sweet, fun, and loving to everyone, but one thing she never did was be on time for her appointment. I have to let her know her appointment at 12:pm but in my book, I put it as 12:30
I think she does anything for everybody but herself, that’s why you cannot be mad at her when you saw her. She makes you laugh. How can you be upset?
Irene and I knew each other since grade school at Bivins Elementary. My wife and I would visit her and Buddy at Cracker Barrel in Amarillo when in the area. Such a good friend for many years.
