Joanna “Cissy” Maurice Allen Parrott, 84, of Lubbock, TX passed away on November 30, 2024.

Joanna graduated from Albany High School in 1958. She received a Beauty School Certificate in Abilene, Texas from Alladin Beauty College.

While attending beauty college, she had a flat on her car. A cowboy stopped and assisted her. Later she was set up on a blind date with a man named Bobby Parrott. The same man who helped fix her flat tire. They began dating and planned a trip to Ruidoso. On the way there, Bobby announced they would need to be married to go to Ruidoso alone together. They stopped in Anson, Texas on September 1, 1961, and were married by the JP making it “OK” to go to Ruidoso alone together. This trip became their honeymoon and favorite home away from home.

Bobby introduced Joanna to horse racing and gambling in Ruidoso. She was hooked! After the honeymoon, Bobby and Joanna made their home in Woodson, Texas and lived there a few years before moving to Haskell, Texas to raise their family. Bobby was in the cattle business and Joanna was always ready to assist. She drove trucks, raised bottle calves and saved enough money to buy her first color TV. She and Bobby owned and operated Haskell Livestock Auction for many years.

When not working at the family business, Joanna and her beloved baby sister and best friend Ginger could be found heading down the road in a station wagon full of kids traveling on adventures whenever they had a chance. After the kids were grown, they still went on many adventures stopping at all casinos whenever they had the chance. After kids were grown, Bobby had an opportunity to buy livestock auction in the Texas panhandle, so Joanna packed up and they moved to Lubbock, Texas where she made her home and “officially” retired!

A year ago, she moved to Amarillo to be closer to family. She will always be remembered as a “die hard” Dallas Cowboys Fan. Planning all family gatherings around the Cowboy’s football games.

Joanna and her “one liners” will be dearly missed where her family knew not to sit by her in church if they didn’t want to be made to laugh.

Joanna also loved Elvis Presley and attended many of his concerts without getting one of his famous scarves, which she forever regretted.

But above all, Joanna (Nana) loved spoiling her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren & dear nieces & nephews. Taking them to the movies (of their choice), sneaking in special snacks; attending numerous plays, marching contests, football & basketball games always cheering on her favorite people, her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Parrott; her parents, W.W. and Mildred Allen; her older brother, Will Allen, and her younger sister, Ginger Mangum.

Joanna is survived by her children, Ronald Parrot and Shyla Gill, Stacey Parrott, Tamra Frey and husband Rodney, and Keith Parrot and Teri Chambers; a very special niece, Sherri foster and husband JD; her grandchildren, Amber McMillan and wife Kate, Hunter Frey and wife Hollis, Dr. Justin Parrott and wife Lauren, Rance Parrott and wife Mimi, Zach Parrott, Travis Parrott, Dadie Parrott, and Kayson Gameros; great-grandchildren, Allister McMillan, Avery McMillan, Anders McMillan, Ellery Frey; beloved great niece Jacy Johnson; beloved great nephew Jett Johnson and wife Tayla, and beloved great nephew Judge Johnson.

The family would like to thank BSA Hospice and Plum Creek Assisted Living, and numerous nurses and caregivers that attended her in these last days.

The family will have a private service to lay Joanna to rest December 28, 2024.
