Joe Christian “Chris” Salazar, Sr., 87, of Amarillo, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Friday, March 28, 2025. An Amarillo native, Chris was born on January 9, 1938, to Leo and Francis (Quintana) Salazar.
His favorite past-time was working on lawn mowers and anything having to do with yard work. He enjoyed helping out where he could. He was very lucky when it came to lottery tickets and loved them. Chris was a loyal fan of the Dallas Cowboys and loved his outings to the Ships Lounge. He was one of the best pool players around. Chris had many friends, and a special appreciation goes to Jaime, who was a special person in his life, always helping Chris with anything he needed. Many thanks to his little circle of friends who always kept Chris company. He will be missed by his friends and family.
Chris was preceded in death by his long-time companion, Lucy Sauceda; his parents, Francis and Leo Salazar; three brothers, Charlie Salazar, Sr., Fernando Salazar, and Ray Salazar, and one sister, Rosie Salazar Telles.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Trinnie Salazar, Annie Salazar Pina and husband Patrick, Joe Salazar, Jr., Rebecca Salazar, and Thomas Salazar; one sister, Angie Carrasco; two brothers, Frankie Salazar, Sr., and Johnny Salazar; 10 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by Patsy Vitela, Marina Sauceda, and Inga Sauceda. Special thanks to Patsy and Marina for their great care of Chris.
Viewing will be from 1:00-5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, at Lighthouse Funeral Home, 3707 Wolflin Ave., Amarillo.

You were a great brother-in-law. I will always remember you for going by to visit me and the kids to see if we were doing okay. We had a few sporadic conversations throughout the years and you always had interesting things to say because you were authentic never tried to be anything but yourself. I really liked that about you and I will always remember how kind and caring you were. RIP Joe Christian Salazar Sr.
Our condolences to the Salazar family in this time of your loss. We regret not being able to join you as I just started a new job and Rosalie just got out of the hospital. Our prayers are with you and may he RIP.
