Joe Lawrence “Larry” Barrington, 72, of Amarillo, passed away on January 11, 2026, after a prolonged illness. His family and friends called him Larry, but the medical and financial worlds called him Joe (or JoeJoe). Larry was born in Amarillo on March 14, 1953, and lived his entire life here.
He was the son of Robert Neil and Geraldine (Brannan) Barrington, who preceded him in death. He was the second of four children; his siblings are Dianne McClish, David Barrington (deceased), and Becky O’Connor.
Larry owned Kitchen Design Center. He built and designed custom cabinets for many. He enjoyed many exciting sports, including skydiving, motorcycle riding, helicopter piloting, hot-air ballooning, horseback riding, camping, boating, and water sports.
He partnered with his father, Bob Barrington, in custom cabinet building and Barrington Glass Works. The two pursued helicopter sales, which took them to South America. Larry and his father had numerous customers in their custom cabinet-making and glass business.
Larry had many friends, many of whom visited in his last days and spoke of his kindness and sincere friendship. He will be missed.
Larry lived several years with his sister and brother-in-law, Dianne and Dennis McClish, when he needed full-time care.
He leaves behind his sisters, Dianne McClish and husband Dennis of Amarillo, Texas, and Becky O’Connor and husband Terry of Borden, Indiana; his nieces, Cathy Henriquez and daughter Emily, and Kim Vincent and daughters Taylor and Emma; his nephews, James Vincent of Amarillo, Texas, T. Patrick O’Connor Il of Cranston, Rhode Island, and Michael P. O’Connor of Pleasanton, California; and many grandnieces and grandnephews.
Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, January 17, at 11:00 a.m. at Lighthouse Funeral Home, 3707 Wolflin Ave.
So many memories. Larry didn’t like cats until he adopted one I found in Red River. So many dances with flips at the Moon Palace. Lots of other memories…. what fun we had for several years. Rest in peace
