John Franklin Womack Jr., 74, of Amarillo, passed away on January 31, 2021.
A Celebration of John’s life will be held on Saturday, February 6, from 3:00-5:00 p.m. at Lighthouse Funeral Home, located at 4207 SW 21st Avenue.
John was born on May 24, 1946, in Turlock, California, to John Franklin Womack Sr. and Erma Ruth Staples. He proudly served in the United States Army as a medic. John retired after 50 years of carpentry. He was always so proud to point out the homes and businesses he built around Amarillo.
John married Alice Faye Gober on April 2, 1973. He always enjoyed riding his Harley any time the weather allowed it. He never missed a NASCAR race on TV, and he was a die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan, win or lose. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren who called him “Papa.” John always had a story to share with them about his childhood and his past. He found joy in “surprising” his great-granddaughters, Tinslee and Baya with snacks. John would make a friend anywhere he went, because he could carry on a conversation with anyone. He continued to practice carpentry and was always looking for his next project.
John was preceded in death by his wife, Alice; his parents, and a daughter, Candice Lee Womack.
Those left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Delnita Ray, Tiffany Womack-McAlpine, and husband Steven, and Joni Womack Malena, and husband Bubba; grandchildren, Christopher, Amber, Sabrina, and her husband Javier, April, Darion, RJ, Jeremy, Jaquin, Brooke, Makayla, and Riley; great-grandchildren, Foste, Tinslee, Baya, Amir, Ana, Westlynn, and Oaklen. He is also survived by many other great-grandchildren.
