In Loving Memory of Jonnie Layne, 67, of Amarillo, who passed away on February 23, 2026. He was born in Guymon, Oklahoma, on May 22, 1958 to Melba Earle.
Jonnie Layne was a loving husband, proud grandpa, and a hardworking man who dedicated his life to taking care of his family and those he cared about. He had a heart that was always willing to help — if you needed something and he was able, Jonnie would be there without hesitation.
He was a man of strong character who believed in standing his ground and speaking his mind. Whether the conversation was about life, football, or politics, Jonnie was never short on words. In fact, once you got him started, he could talk your ear off — and he loved every minute of it. He truly enjoyed connecting with people and sharing his thoughts, whether good or bad.
Jonnie was a devoted fan of the Dallas Cowboys and loved watching football of any kind. If a game was on, especially his Cowboys, you could count on him being tuned in. Football was something he genuinely loved.
Family meant everything to Jonnie. Some of his happiest moments were spent at family gatherings, enjoying time together, having a few cold ones, and playing pool. He cherished laughter, stories, and simply being surrounded by the people he loved most.
To those closest to him, one phrase will forever echo in their hearts — “What’s up, boss man?” It was his signature greeting, a simple phrase that carried warmth, familiarity, and love.
Jonnie leaves behind a legacy of strength, loyalty, conversation, and deep love for his family. He will be remembered for his big heart, his firm beliefs, his willingness to help others, and the countless conversations that filled so many rooms with his voice.
He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
Jonnie was preceded in death by his mother, Melba Earle; a brother, Cleon Earle, and two sisters, Renee Earle and Linda James.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Amanda Layne; stepchildren, Tiffany Earle and, Chris Earle; his eight siblings, Connie, Gayla, Charlotte, Judy, Rock, Eddie, HJ, and Mickey; one grandson, Javier Ballin and partner, Jesalyn; five granddaughters, Alainna Ballin and partner, Riley, Izabella Earle, Arianna Ballin, Zoey Earle, and Mackenzie Earle; one great-grandson, Kingston Dockery; one great-granddaughter, Journie Ballin; multiple nieces and nephews, and his best friend, Mike Ott and his wife, Cindy.
Memorial Services will be held at 12:00 noon on Monday, March 2, 2026, at Lighthouse Funeral Home, 3707 Wolflin Ave., Amarillo, Texas.
I’m so sorry for your loss and family’s loss. Always thought Jonnie was a good man. Allways treated me good. Stay strong and God bless.
