Juan Jose Hernandez, 71, of Amarillo, passed away on February 24, 2026. He was born in Lamesa, Texas, on October 1, 1954, to Fidel and Francis Fernandez.
Juan was a warm-hearted and hardworking man with a great sense of humor. He enjoyed cooking out and spending time with his family. Juan especially enjoyed time spent with his grandchildren.
He knew his way around the kitchen, but was well known for his menudo, barbacoa, and delicious tripitas. Juan enjoyed watching Western cowboy movies, Tejano music, and Mexican music.
Although we lay Juan to rest, let us remember him the way he lived: a beer enthusiast with a warm heart and a lively spirit with a music appreciation.
Juan, thank you for the lessons, the laughs, and the best meals we’ve ever shared.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fidel and Francis Fernandez; brothers, Daniel Hernandez, Raul Hernandez, and Pete Hernandez; sisters, Lupe Hernandez and Petra Hernandez, and a grandson, Daniel Contreras, III.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Norma Contreras; children, Melissa Carrasco, Janie Hernandez, Lupe Hernandez, and Daniel Contreras; sisters, Susie Hernandez and Mary Watson; brothers, David Hernandez, Robert Hernandez, Felix Hernandez, and Fidel Hernandez; twelve grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
