Katherine (Katie) Dale Medelberg was born May 10, 1958, in Amarillo, Texas. Katie passed away on April 30, 2023, just shy of her 65th birthday.

As part of an Air Force family, Katie lived in many states, including Alaska. Katie graduated from Mascoutah High School in Mascoutah, Illinois in 1977 and obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in General Studies and a paralegal certificate from West Texas State University in 1989. She married Lyle Medelberg at Scott Airforce Base in 1977. When Katie and Lyle divorced in 1982, she moved back to Amarillo to raise her girls. Katie loved to cook for her friends and family. 

Her parents were Homer Leroy Ritenour and Mary Aileen Ritenour, who preceded her in death. 

She is survived by her daughters Jennifer Chain of Norman, Oklahoma (married to John Chain since 2004), and Heidi Stringer of Amarillo, Texas (married to Mark Stringer since 2009), her three amazing grandsons, Ian and Noah Chain of Norman, Oklahoma, and Mason Stringer of Amarillo, Texas, her sister Gwen Waddle (husband Charles) of McGregor, Texas, sister Paula Pownell (husband Johann Nix) of Stone Mountain, Georgia, and nieces and nephews. 

Interment will be at Llano Cemetery in the Garden of Gethsemane at 10 am on Monday, June 12th.  Instead of flowers, please donate to the High Plains Food Bank.
