Katherine Sue Molina (McMath), passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, January 5, 2023 at Baptist St. Anthony (BSA) Hospital in Amarillo, Texas surrounded by love and prayers from her immediate family. She was only 62 years old. Katherine’s family and friends are deeply saddened and shocked by her sudden death.
Katherine was born in Albuquerque, NM on Monday, December 5, 1960 to Sylvia J. (Landavazo) and Robert W. McMath. Katherine was a long-term resident of the Los Lunas, NM area until 2021, when she chose to move to Clovis, NM after retirement from the State of New Mexico.
In display of her strong work ethic, Katherine dedicated 25 years of service to the State of New Mexico working for the Commission for the Blind, in the same position for all 25 years. Katherine was eager and excited for retirement, as she had only been retired for 18 months before her passing. She had many goals for her retirement, like spending more time with her lifelong significant other Gary, and was excited to be closer to her daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren upon moving to Clovis. Katherine’s world revolved around her biggest joys which were being with her daughter and grandsons. She was always up for a quick ice cream trip to catch up on their day, or a shopping trip to walk around and talk. Her daily text messages and conversations will be greatly missed by her grandsons.
Katherine was a devoted partner, exceptional mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Everyone who knew Katherine knew her to always be willing to help in any situation, and to lend a hand to anyone in need. Katherine had a love of Bingo and playing slot machines. Her and lifelong significant other Gary, would often travel to play at various Casinos as one of their favorite things to do together. Listening to retellings of their adventures was always a fun time for all. Katherine will be greatly missed by all who knew her, but we will always keep her memory alive, as she would have not wanted us to skip a beat without her.
Katherine was preceded in death by her mother, Sylvia J. Kirby (Landavazo), and father, Robert W. McMath.
She is survived by her lifelong significant other of 23 years, Gary D. Verble, of Clovis, NM; her daughter, Kellie Lynn Cortez (Bozell) and her husband Oscar Cortez; grandsons, Kyren Gene Cortez and Kason Robert Cortez, of Clovis, NM; her brother, Thomas W. McMath and his wife, Diane, of Albuquerque, NM; a sister, Evelyn J. Cosentino along with life partner, Frank, of Milford, DE; nieces, Marlo J. Metz (Trevor) and Carmen Mbwana (Hiza), and nephew Justino Cosentino (Brooke). She is also survived by many cousins, and other extended family members and many friends.
Final arrangements are pending at this time and will be posted as they are finalized. In lieu of flowers, please play a game of Bingo, or slot machine, in remembrance of Katherine, as she would have wanted us all to have fun in her honor.
