It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Kenneth Raymond Cox, AKA Pops, on June 6, 2025, after battling prostate cancer.

Kenneth Raymond Cox was born on July 15, 1950, at 9:11 pm to Mary Lee and Kenneth Cox. He graduated from Dalhart High School in 1968. Kenneth married Deborah Horner on December 17, 1975, in Clayton, New Mexico. He became a father on March 9, 1977, at 12:15 AM when Michelle Lee, AKA Kitten, was born in Dalhart Texas. While living in Bernalillo New Mexico, he was blessed by the birth of his, Aaron Ray, born on February 18, 1979, in Albuquerque, New Mexico (oddly, no time on his birth certificate.)

A Celebration of “Pop aka PaPa’s” life will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 5, 2025, at 114 Yuma, Logan New Mexico.

During his career, he assisted his father with the family-owned meat packing house and refrigeration and air conditioning business. He then attended the police academy in Santa Fe New Mexico and was lead Police Officer at the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology. Kenneth then pursued his passion, becoming a professional hunting guide throughout New Mexico and Colorado, off and on over the 20 years (bears, mountain lions and elk). In one season, he had successfully treed 27 bears in Taos New Mexico.

Upon retirement he returned to the great outdoors, casting his pole to fish at every opportunity. Eventually he moved in with Michelle and her family, husband Michael Isham, grandson, Kieler, and granddaughter Skylee, AKA “Pumkin”, in Bushland Texas. A path was quickly created from the little feet of Kieler and Skylee running out to his apartment in the shop. PaPa was always there for the kids when 2 working parents schedules did not allow. He then had 2 more grandchildren, Aaron and his wife, Laura, had Raelynn Grace and Carly Renae. His grandchildren were very precious to him and loved to take them fishing. His last bear hunt, guided by Todd May, in 2022 was very special with Aaron, Kieler and Michael at his side.

Kenneth then spent 9+ years living in Logan New Mexico and became quite popular. He loved being on his boat at Ute Lake fishing. He had many great friends in the community that when his health was declining, were always there for him. The family would like to thank all the Logan community members who cared so much for Kenneth when we all needed you.

Memories core to all those who knew Pop, included his stories of great hunts and being an avid outdoorsman. Kenneth was a passionate patriot, firm believer of the second amendment and member of the National Rifle Association of America. He was an Associate Member of the Texas Game Warden Association. His hobbies included collecting guns and ammo, fishing on his bass boat, huge fan of the Professional Bull Riding, watching classic country westerns, especially John Wayne movies with his popcorn, nestle crunch and cherry limeade.

He was preceded in death by his son Kenneth Cox, Jr.; his mother, Mary Lee Cox and father Kenneth Cox.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Michael Isham of Canyon Texas; grandson Kieler Isham of Amarillo Texas, Skylee Isham of somewhere in Arizona; his son and favorite daughter-in-law and 2 grandchildren, Aaron, Laura, Raelynn and Carly Cox of Weatherford Texas; K9 best friend and loyal companion of 12 years, Bear; favorite niece, Mary Jacqueline Ridgell, husband, Bryan the “honey badger” and great niece Delaney, whom he loved dearly despite her being a liberal.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks to celebrate Kenneths legacy by casting a fishing line and finding the freedom and peace in the great outdoors. Lastly, to always live by the famous words of John Wayne, “Life is hard; it’s harder if you’re stupid.”
