Lavon Ellen Whittington

Lavon Ellen Whittington, passed away on July 24, 2023. She was born in Muskogee, Oklahoma on August 2, 1941, to Melvin Foster and Thelma Lou Edwards Foster. Her life was a testament to the power of unconditional love and indomitable spirit.

Lavon dedicated her life to nurturing her family, providing a loving home for her late husband, Robert Whittington, whom she married on July 23, 1978, and her cherished daughters Tania White and Charlene Heath. Even in her widowed years, Lavon’s light shone undimmed. She was the proud grandmother “MeMe” of Michael Kerbo of Guymon Oklahoma, Brandy and husband Lance Hindman of Moore Oklahoma, Jonathan and wife Alisha Heath of Canyon, and Jennifer Voyles of Amarillo. She was a loving great- grandmother to her 16 great-grandchildren. Lavon’s love for her family was evident in every facet of her life, the memories they created together stand as a testament to her unwavering affection.

Lavon was a tireless worker in her own right. She was a homemaker, a caregiver, a confidant, and a pillar of strength for her family. Her love for God and her Family was immeasurable. Her faith was strong as she would “Pray on Grannies Bible” both day and night.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Donna Lloyd; husband, Robert Whittington; brother, Lonnie Foster, and her parents, Melvin Foster and Thelma Foster. She carried their love and lessons with her, preserving their memory through her actions and words.

The graveside service to celebrate Lavon’s life will be held on Tuesday, August 1, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at Memory Gardens Cemetery of Amarillo, located at Interstate 27, Amarillo, Texas, 79119.
