Lavonda Marie Kilgore Slaughter, 93, of Amarillo, passed away surrounded by her loving family on January 7, 2025. She was born in Lelia Lake, Texas on February 27, 1931, to Chester and Harriet (Parsley) Kilgore.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, January 13, 2025, at Lighthouse Funeral Home, 3707 Wolflin Ave. Interment will follow at Llano Cemetery East.
Mrs. Slaughter will be in state at the funeral home on Monday beginning at 10:00 a.m.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Chester Kilgore and Harriet Elizabeth Parsley Kilgore; her sisters, Brownie Jester, Roma Harris, Sug Johnson, and Beth Clower, and her daughter and son-in-law, Delilah Bigham and her husband Andy.
Left to cherish her memory are her grandsons, Troy Bigham and wife Leslie, of Amarillo, Wyatt Bigham and spouse Rodney Jones of Dallas, and Steven Bigham and wife Lela of Amarillo; great-grandchildren, Courtney Boyer and spouse Garrett, Allison Bigham, Kapri Sanders and spouse Parrish, Joy Taylor and spouse Roland, and Roland Bigham, and three great-great-grandchildren, Grayson Boyer and Cyprus Sanders, and Levi Taylor.
We attended Church with Lavonda for a lot of years , My Wife Cathy went to school with Delilah and the Cherry’s, Lavonda We Love You and miss You hugs.
Lavonda was like a second Mother to our family. She was a wonderful forever friend! She will always have a special place in our hearts.

I attended church with Lavonda and for the last few years was the teacher in her Sunday school class. She was so sweet and had a great sense of humor. Love to the family.
LaVonda pierced my ears when I was 13 years old. She used an ice cube and a cork. Many years later, I had a second ear piercing at a mall. It hurt much worse than the first piercing from LaVonda!
She also hosted my wedding shower in 1971.
She was a lady who could do anything she set her mind to and do it well.
The last time I saw her was at the baby shower for her first great-great grandchild.
I was blessed to get to visit with her and will always remember the love she lavished onto her family.
My prayers for God’s comfort for her family. May you all keep the happy memories of the time spent with her in your heart.
A sweet sweet friend I thought so much of at Temple Baptist church and as a member of our JOY CLUB, and she was always a joy to everyone! Several years before this I knew her at Eva’s dress shop and loved her then. What an attractive clerk she was and so very helpful. She and Gay Cherry were both so very special to me!
