Lonnie “Junebug” Smith, a.k.a. “Jr.”, passed away Sunday, July 16, 2023. He was born on May 20, 1986, in Amarillo, Texas to Lonnie Smith, Sr. and Connie Rodriguez.
Lonnie was known for his funny personality; he could always be counted on to lighten the mood. His laughter was infectious, and his love for music was a love language that he used to connect with all those around him. He worked as a handyman, but Lonnie was the kind of guy who could fix more than just leaky faucets and creaky doors. He was a compassionate soul who always reached out to those in need, a loyal friend, and a loving family man. His family was his world; his love was like a cowboy’s lasso, wide and encompassing. Lonnie was a true-blue Dallas Cowboys fan, and we mean true-blue. He was an artist in his spare time.
He was preceded in death by his mother Connie Frances Rodriguez Reynolds, wife Misty Smith, his grandfather Clarence Smith, and niece Mattison Graves.
Lonnie is survived by his father Robert Roy Reynolds; his father and stepmother, Lonnie and Helen Smith, Sr., his sisters Samantha Castillo and husband Adrian, Crystal Smith and husband Jesse Townsend, Carrie Smith Reynolds and husband Eddie Amaya, and Paula Graves and husband Matt, his brother Samuel Smith and wife Brittany, his grandparents Ruben and Mary Frances Rodriguez, and his grandmother Zona Smith, as well as many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service celebrating Lonnie’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, July 21, 2023, at Caprock Baptist Church, 3627 SE 29th Ave, in Amarillo.
Let’s honor Lonnie’s memory by sharing our favorite stories and photos on his memorial page. Let’s remember the way he lived – full of laughter, love, and cowboy boots. Let’s remember the way he loved – fully, deeply, and with loyalty that would put any cowboy to shame. Let’s remember our “Junebug” – funny, compassionate, loyal, and loving, always.
Praying for You All at this sad time! Love Uncle Andy and Aunt Marie Hughes
