Our beloved mother, Lupe Smith, has left us, but her love will forever remain in our hearts. She passed away on August 11, 2025 at the age of 61, in Amarillo. She was born in Harlingen, Texas on November 21, 1963, to Jose and Maria (Jimenez) Montiel.

Rosary and Visitation will be from 12:00 noon to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 17, 2025, with the Rosary being recited at 1:00 p.m., at Lighthouse Funeral Chapel, 3707 Wolflin Ave., Amarillo.

A Mass will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 18, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 4100 Coulter Street South, Amarillo. Interment will follow at Llano Cemetery East, located at the corner of 34th and Arthur St.

She was a woman of quiet strength, always putting the needs of others before her own. She taught us the importance of kindness, forgiveness, and living life to the fullest. She was a beautiful, kind, and loving soul who touched everyone she met with her warmth and giving heart. Her smile and laughter lit up every room, and her heart was always open to those in need. She was the first to offer a helping hand, the last to let go of a hug. She loved softball, the Texas longhorns, and spending time with her family. Her memory will live on through her children, Daniel and Stephanie, and all those she touched with her loving spirit.

Lupe was preceded in death by her parents, Maria and Jose Montiel, and her brothers, Antonio “Pepe” Montiel, and Jacinto “Jack” Montiel.

She is survived by her son Daniel and daughter Stephanie; a brother Chicho Montiel and wife Hilda, and two sisters, Cleo Flores, and Sara Martin and husband Joe.
