Madelena Yvette “Lena” Herrera, 55, of Amarillo, passed away on Friday, November 1, 2024, with family at her side. She was born on March 28, 1969, in Laguna Beach, California to Robert and Rose Herrera.
A Rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 7, at Lighthouse Funeral Home, 3707 Wolflin Ave., Amarillo, Texas.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 p.m. November 8, 2024, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 4100 S. Coulter St., Amarillo, Texas. Interment will follow at Llano Cemetery East.
Lena attended Caprock High School. She worked in the restaurant industry as a server, and she really enjoyed meeting people and making new friends. Lena was a die-hard Cowboy fan.
Lena had a passion for the iconic figures of Marilyn Monroe and James Dean, whose memorabilia she collected with an unmatched fervor.
Embodying the immortal words of Marilyn Monroe – “Keep smiling, because life is a beautiful thing and there’s so much to smile about” – Madelena’s positivity transcended every aspect of her life. As a server in the restaurant industry, she was known for her unwavering dedication. She had a knack for making every customer feel special, radiating warmth and kindness with every interaction. Her collection of Hello Kitty blankets, a whimsical and endearing hobby, was a testament to her childlike joy and innocence.
Left to cherish Lena’s memory are her fiancé, Grayson Herring; her parents, Robert and Rose Herrera; a sister, Denise Herrera; brothers, Phillip and Michael Herrera, all of Amarillo. She is also survived by her children, Danielle Herrera, Tabitha Herrera and fiancé Nick Rodriguez of Plainview, Tessa Dominguez of Colorado, and Noah Dominguez and fiancé Madi Seales of Amarillo. Lena was so proud of her nine grandchildren who lovingly called her “Gammy,” Jeremiah, Raiden, Zachariah, Kai, Alaia, Kingsley, Penelope, Aliza, and Zavien.
