Mason Dixon Hammons, 17, of Amarillo, passed away on Sunday, November 16, 2025. He was born here on July 22, 2008, to Matthew and Lauren Hammons.
Graveside Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, November 24, 2025, at Llano Cemetery East, located at the Northeast corner of Arthur and 34th Streets in Amarillo.
Mason was many things…he was kind and smart with a wonderful sense of humor. He went through life full of wonder and passion. Mason had a heart for all people suffering and the desire to help others. Mason had various interests that he enjoyed throughout his life such as listening to music, watching true crime and nature documentaries, playing video games, and hanging out with his friends.
He was a baseball player for many years as a first and third baseman. Mason loved being with his brothers having nerf wars, riding dirt bikes and four-wheelers, wrestling, and playing hide-and-seek in the dark!
From an early age, Mason enjoyed going on trips and family vacations. He had a love for exploring nature while camping and hiking with family. He was an experienced hunter and fisherman. Mason loved cooking in the kitchen with his momma and usually ate more than he cooked.
Mason had many dreams for his future, and he wanted to be successful in everything he did. His biggest dream was to be a father someday. Mason was loved by many. He touched the lives of many who knew or met him. He always went out of his way to help anyone he could. Mason had a smile that could light up any room. He was a spark of light in the darkness of this harsh, cruel world. Mason had great potential and was meant for so much more. He will be loved and missed by everyone who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his great-grandparents, Bill and Kay Hammons, Earl Whitt, and Bobby and Lillie Kleffman.
Left to cherish his precious memory are his parents, Matthew and Lauren Hammons; brothers, Christian and Austin Hammons; grandparents, Terry and Olga Kleffman, Sheila Murphy, and Robert and Sherry Hammons, as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Hammons, Austin , Christian and Sherry Hammons and family, my thoughts and prayers are with each of you. I am so deeply sorry in the loss of Mason. I always would ask Austin how both Mason and Christian were doing , and I think I would always catch him off guard being I remembered his brothers. I remember Mason and he was always a pleasant young man and we would always talk to me in the cafeteria line. May each of you feel the comfort of Gods arms around each of you , for comfort , strength and peace.
i miss mason so much he was practically like my brother i would be with dude all the time and it sucks so much im not going to be able to see him or talk to him anymore man he would always put a smile on anyones face dude he was genuinely a great man i miss alot dude its gonna suck not having to talk to him man he made everyday a memory i wish he’s safe
mason was my friend but more than that mason was my brother blood or not we had a bond only brothers held i can’t believe im never gonna be able to see or hear my brothers laugh he was such a pure happy genuine soul and he went to early i will forever miss mason and im so sorry for his loss to everyone who knew him and was friends with him or even just knew him i hope everyone is okay and i pray for mason and his family

One of the most purest souls i’ve ever met and was one of the few in this world to always think about other people before himself. He always stuck by my side even when nobody else would and he treated me like family. he was a true brother and will forever be missed. #forever17LLM
i never knew mason that well but i had initially met him through jackson. there was never a dull moment when we were with mason, we didnt hang out all the time but we had hung out so much to the point where I started considering him one to be one of my closet friends. it seems like we were just kickin it at the park the other day. im gonna miss him. my condolences go to mr. and mrs. hammons.
Mason was the kind of person you were just grateful to know. He always had a smile on his face, and he could laugh at even the dumbest jokes usually because we made them together. From the Fridays I’d go home with him to spend the weekend, to the late nights playing Fortnite and talking like we’d win the World Cup one day, every moment with him felt easy and fun.
I knew Mason since elementary school, and I’m so glad our paths crossed. He wasn’t just a friend he was the person who made life lighter, happier, and brighter just by being there. I’ll never forget the way he made people feel, and I’m thankful for every memory we shared.

I had class with mason sophomore year, and he was very quiet but very bright to others who he knew. I truly pray for his family, and may he rest in peace. 🙏🏽

Mason was kind and funny. When we took him to summer camp a few years ago, he was so laid back and easy to be around. He and his cousin, Anna, clearly had a close relationship and loved each other a lot. It was a joy to know him. Praying for peace for the family and for his friends. He’s gone too soon and we’re so sorry.
Me and Mason used to go to school together at caprock he was really the only person there who would make me feel welcome as our friendship grew we would go chill at the house and play the game we became really good friends he is genuinely a good man and I’m going to miss him a lot
Its been years since I talked to you last but every time I did, I always laughed. You were so funny and could light up every room you entered. I had at least class with you every year in middle school and to say you were the class clown would be an understatement. Your smile was bright, and your joy even brighter. Mason, you are loved and missed by all. May The Lord be with your family.
i’m go grateful for all the memories we had growing up together from elementary school to highschool. he was one of my very first friends at school and our friendship carried on throughout middle and highschool. my favorite memories are all from elementary school and we had many good laughs. you will be missed mason

I wish the Hammons family love and my sympathy during this time. Mason was a core person in my childhood, and brought smiles and laughter to anyone around. His kindness was so pure and genuine. I’ll never forget you always, Rest well Mason.❤️

Mason was one of my friends back in elementary school till middle school, the most funniest and caring friend I had. I remember going into class one day and you told me you were the one who cut my hair whenever I was sleeping when I came to school with all my hair chopped off. It was funny. Yesterday, the words were not there but do want to share some of my favorite Mason moments.
I vividly remember a moment maybe 2nd grade? Mason at the school Christmas party where he plastered himself to the floor and put a bow on himself and declared loudly to his young, beautiful teacher something like… Miss Barry, here is your present!!! Me and his momma thought that was really funny. He sure didn’t lack confidence in himself and even had a t-shirt he would wear that said “chicks dig me.”
I know he enjoyed cooking and could imagine him being a chef. He was one for always sneaking bits of food out of the kitchen before dinner was ready. I guess he was the unofficial, official taste tester of the Hammons house.
Mason also had lots of wit and main character energy. He was funny with things he said or did… which I think he got from his dad.
I have so many memories of Mason and Anna doing lots of things together: spending summers latched on to their mommas as they learned to swim, painting minions, sleep overs, t-ball games, playing in the mud, and so much more.
I can still hear his voice in my head say “Hey Aunt Tina” as he would come hug me whenever I would see him. Love you Mace!
i didnt know mason very well but i know he was the sweetest person i met one day. ive seen him around the halls always so bright and full of life and always had a smile on his face and it broke my heart once i heard what happened. LLM🕊️
Having had the good fortune of seeing him as a baby, toddler, and then a little budding man, his cheerful joy was a reminder that good things come into this world for a reason. Mason’s parents were wonderful people that always made the best out of every situation and Mason fit right in with them and his brothers.
Just the smile alone was enough to make your heart jump. My entire family was fortunate enough to spend a small amount of time with him on trips west. His spirit will be there forever.
The way he reminds me of his father is still ridiculously uncanny.
