We announce with great sorrow the passing of a beloved family pillar, Raymond James Mays of Amarillo, Texas on March 18, 2025. Born on January 19, 1946 in Amarillo, Raymond’s life was a testament to the power of dedication, compassion, and humility. His journey was marked by the quiet strength of a loving father and grandfather, a devoted brother, a humble servant, and a dedicated professional. Raymond was a beacon of love and warmth, whose presence filled our lives with joy and comfort.

Raymond was known for his 35-year long career as a truck driver, a tenure that showcased his commitment and dedication. His colleagues cherished him for his camaraderie and his ceaseless spirit. Even after his retirement in 2015, Raymond’s stories from the road continued to enthrall family and friends alike.

Above all, Raymond’s heart was eternally devoted to his family and his Lord. The love he held for his family was profound and unyielding. His compassion was the cornerstone of his family, providing a safe haven for all who were blessed to be a part of his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Olga Mays, his brothers Billy and Ricky Mays, his sister Linda Mays, his daughter Shannon Sharber, and his spouse, Sherron Mays.

Raymond was a loving father to his daughters Tamme Pinkert and husband Tommy, and Rita Burton and husband Harry; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren, and a sister-in-law, Sallie Grimsley.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, March 24, at Lighthouse Funeral Home Chapel, 3707 Wolflin Ave., Amarillo, Texas. Interment will follow at Llano Cemetery, 2900 S. Hayes.
