Richard was a man of many talents and passions. He found joy in the soothing melodies of big band music, skillfully playing the saxophone and clarinet. His keen intellect and political acumen led him to UC Riverside, where he majored in Political Science, courtesy of the GI Bill. Richard’s service to the nation as a US Marine Corp Korean War veteran was a chapter of his life that filled him with immense pride. He even had the honor of playing his music for the President. He was also a dedicated steward of the environment, leading a recycling program and pioneering sustainable practices long before they became widespread. His love for sports and staying informed about current affairs were other defining aspects of his captivating personality.

Richard’s journey was also deeply rooted in love and family. He was a devoted husband to Lucretia, a doting father to his children, Daniel, Michael, Kathy, and the late Richard II, and a cherished grandfather to Cassie, Heather, Kristina, Sabrina, Samuel, Priya, Anand, Taylor and Sydney. His love and dedication extended beyond his immediate family, as evidenced by his work as a social worker helping children find their forever homes. In retirement, he continued to live robustly, spending his days surrounded by the tranquility of the mountains near Big Bear, CA, and later, in Nevada with his son, Mike. His life was a living embodiment of the verse from 2 Timothy 4:7, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”

Richard leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and dedication. He was preceded in death by his son, Richard Ernest Allen II; his parents, Ernest Allen and Ione O’Neal; his daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Allen, and his granddaughter’s, Shayna Allen and Lindsey Allen. Richard’s life was a testament to the power of hard work, the importance of living life to the fullest, and the courage to live without regret.
