Rosella Evenson

Rosella Evenson, 95 of Amarillo, TX passed away surrounded by family on March 9, 2022, in Amarillo.

Funeral services will be held on April 2, 2022, at 10:00 am at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 6900 Hillside Road, Amarillo, TX 79109 followed by graveside service at Llano Cemetery.

Rosella was born December 14, 1926 to Francisco Silva and Dolores Gabaldon Silva in San Marcil, New Mexico.

Rosella married Vernon Evenson, the love of her life, on December 31, 1953, in Albuquerque, NM. They lived in New Mexico until 1968 when they moved to Amarillo, Texas. They lived in Fritch, Texas for many years and eventually made their way back to Amarillo. She worked as a waitress and cashier for many years, but much of her time was spent raising her family. Anyone who knew Rosella knew she was an amazing cook. She loved to cook for her family and her family loved eating her cooking.

She was a big part of her family’s lives, she was loved very much and will be dearly missed.

She is preceded in death by her parents and Jose Barreras, the only dad she ever knew; her loving husband of 69 years, Vernon Evenson; a brother, Gilbert Barreras; and a daughter-in-law, Betty Barreras.

Survivors include her sons, Joe Barreras, John Graff, and wife Sharon, Robert Evenson, Vernon Evenson and husband, Paul, and Kenneth Evenson and wife, Beth; daughter Theresa Ward and husband, George; siblings, Florinda Truijillo, Lillian Baca, Jermone Barreras; sisters-in-law, Eilene Sorensen, Diane Sakrismo, and husband, Phil; 15 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild; she is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to High Plains Food Bank (www.hpfb.org).

    Our family stopped in Fritch and spent a wonderful evening with Uncle Vernie and Aunt Rosella. She made a wonderful dinner and we had a nice visit.

    They raised a great family. It was always exciting to get to see our Texas cousins
