Sean Mateo Reyes, 7, of Amarillo, passed away on February 20, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on May 18, 2018, in Amarillo to Alvaro and Adriauna (Walker) Reyes.

Sean’s life was a testimony of strength, perseverance, and deep, abiding love. Born with the rare genetic condition HNRNPH2, he faced challenges that were relentless and life-altering. Yet Sean carried himself with a quiet courage that often hid the weight of what he endured. The impact of his condition was profound, but he rarely let the world see his struggle. He met life in his own way, on his own terms, with a resilience far beyond his years.

Sean was the boss, and everyone knew it. It was his boat, and the rest of us were simply along for the ride. His side-eyes and eye rolls said more than words ever could, and when he smiled, it was contagious. As the years passed, those smiles became rarer, which only made them more precious to those who loved him.

He loved 80s music and worship songs, and his presence filled every room he entered. He loved his brothers deeply, and they loved him just as fiercely. Their bond was steady and true.

Sean was cared for by an extraordinary nurse who loved him like her own, and every person who had the privilege of meeting him was touched by his life. He had a way of drawing people in and leaving a mark on their hearts. His parents, who poured everything they had into caring for him, loved him with a fierce and unwavering devotion. He was the light of their lives. Though their love remains, the space he leaves behind is immeasurable.

Sean was the center of his family’s world, and his absence leaves a hole that can never be filled. In one final act of love, Sean’s family chose brain donation in hopes of lighting a path for future families facing HNRNPH2. Though it could not change his story, it reflects the heart of who he was — a life that continues to give, even in passing.

We trust that Sean is now whole and at peace in the presence of the Lord, restored and free, and we hold tightly to the promise that we will see him again.

He was preceded in death by his great-grandfather, Abundio Reyes Corral, Ronald Bond, and Terry Elliott; his great-grandmother, Deborah Elliott; his uncles, Makai Walker and J.T. Dailey, and a great- uncle, Jesus Reyes.

Left to cherish his precious memory are his parents, Alvaro and Adriauna Reyes; brothers, Katai, Aiden, and Salem Reyes, of the home; grandparents, Juan and Veronica Reyes, Kevin and Destiny Wright, and Winston Walker and companion, Lupe Acosta, all of Amarillo; padrinos, Miguel and Miriam Valenciano; uncles, Daniel and Edgar Reyes, George Leftrich, and Chase Bohannan; aunts, Petra Romero, Camilla Reyes, Shalamaar Walker, Jada Dailey, Taji Walker, and Raina Bohannan; fourteen first cousins, and many great aunts, uncles and family, too numerous to count. He is also survived by his loving nurse, Maria Caballero, and his four-legged sister, Stormy.

The family will receive visitors from 2:00-5:00 p.m. this Sunday, March 1, 2026, at Lighthouse Funeral Home, 3707 Wolflin Ave., Amarillo.  A Celebration of Sean’s precious life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, March 2, 2026, at CityLight Church Amarillo2501 South Vernon Street, Amarillo, Texas.
