Starla Jo McCutchen

Starla Jo McCutchen, age 69, died peacefully on June 4, 2024.  She is no longer in pain and is now in the comforting and loving arms of Jesus, her Savior.

Starla was born on August 12, 1954, in Wellington, Texas to Joe and Betty McCutchen.  She was a resident of Amarillo and attended Bonham Street Christian School and then graduated from Amarillo High School in 1971.

She worked for TWA Airlines and traveled internationally for several years.  She later worked for local travel agencies and loved being in the airline industry.  She experienced wonderful adventures and made life-long friends.

She later worked for On Angels Wings in Phoenix, Arizona helping people with special needs to find jobs and manage challenges of everyday life.

Starla’s strength was her ability to love and accept people.  She was a forgiving, humble person and had a heart made of gold.  She will always be remembered for her fun-loving, free spirit.

Starla is preceded in death by her father, Billy Joe McCutchen.

She leaves behind two children, Elliott O’Brien and Erin O’Brien.  They were the love of her life, and her greatest joy was their happiness.  Remaining family members include Starla’s mother, Betty McCutchen, siblings Karen Pope, Kyle McCutchen, and Stephanie Lowther.  She had multiple nieces and nephews and loved hearing about how they were doing and always wanted them to know how much she loved them.

A special thank you to BSA Hospice of the Southwest for understanding Starla’s heart and meeting her needs in such a loving way.  Teresa was her primary nurse and words cannot express the depth of gratitude our family has for her help during the final days.

Arrangements are pending and donations should be directed to BSA Hospice of the Southwest.

I lost contact with Starla long ago but I still remember her smile and laugh. Growing up together was fun and I admired her for being in the airline business. It seemed to fit her so well. Doesn’t surprise me the wonderful things written about her. She was special. Peace and comfort to her family in this time of need.

Starla was such a beautiful person. I was so blessed to have known her. I looked up to her as a roll model all the years we were growing up on Mesquite Street. So many great memories there. She was a good Christian example for all of those whose hearts she touched. She will be greatly missed, but we will see her again in heaven where there will be no more tears.

Starla was a special friend to me when we were pre-teens
I loved going to her mom and dad’s house!
We also laughed a lot at crazy things-mostly trying to sing bass with the hymns.
So sorry for her family. Will see her again in Heaven❤️

Starla was a very good friend of mine for many years. We met when she was teaching swimming at the Y and I was teaching trampoline there! She was a big support for me when my boyfriend died, so easy to talk to and very caring!!
    I will miss her dearly!
