Susan Jane Edwards, beloved mother, nurse, and caregiver, passed away on March 11, 2026. Born on August 20, 1947, in Detroit, Michigan, she dedicated her life to her family and also to caring for others with compassion, skill, and an unwavering sense of purpose.
Her journey in healthcare began as a nurse’s aide in the nursery of Deaf Smith County Hospital. While raising her three children, she pursued her goal of becoming a registered nurse, balancing motherhood and education with remarkable determination. A few years later, she advanced her career further, earning her credentials as an OB-GYN nurse practitioner- a role that perfectly reflected her commitment to women’s health and family care.
She found great joy in providing prenatal care, often traveling to remote areas of the Texas Panhandle to ensure every mother received the attention and support she deserved. Her dedication later took her to several communities across New Mexico where she continued to serve with the same caring warmth that defined her.
Susan loved her church! She sang in the choir and was very active in women’s ministry as well as serving as a Stephen Minister, providing one-to-one Christ-centered care to those in need.
Susan’s enduring influence will live on in the countless lives that she touched. Especially, in her children and grandchildren who witnessed her strength, kindness, and devotion every day. Her life was a testament to service, love, and perseverance, and she will be deeply missed by all.
Susan was preceded in death by her parents, Mary Elizabeth Stapp and Carl Stapp, Sr., as well as her brother Carl Stapp, Jr.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Brian Edwards, Shelly McCracken and husband Roger, and Jarrit Edwards and wife Cindy; eleven grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
Celebration of Life Service will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 18, 2025, at Washington Ave Christian Church, 3800 S. Washington St, Amarillo, Texas.
