Virginia Joan “Momcat” Roksandich, 88, peacefully passed away on May 21, 2025, in Amarillo, Texas. Born on July 12, 1936, in Graham, Texas to George and Lucile Allison. Virginia lived a vibrant and accomplished life marked by creativity, dedication, and a deep love for her community.

She graduated from Guymon High School in 1954 and went on to earn a business certificate from Amarillo College. Her professional journey began at Diamond/Shamrock, where she worked in accounting and asset management from 1955 to 1984.

Virginia met John Roksandich, an airman, on June 6, 1957. Three weeks later they were married. Their loving partnership allowed them to establish a home, family, and careers. From 1984 until 1996, Virginia worked alongside John at his State Farm Insurance agency. Together they built a thriving business focused on serving their clients with care and integrity.

John passed away in 1996 which left Virginia to reflect on her next pursuit. She always had a love for music and was a gifted pianist. She brought joy to many through her performances of popular music. But her passion found expression through sewing—she was a master couturier who created exquisite garments for family and friends. From her home atelier, she fashioned everything from christening gowns to unique designer jackets to wedding dresses. Her home décor creations—quilts, pillows, aprons, and boxes—were both beautiful and functional.  Virginia won dozens of blue ribbons for her unique designs and generously shared her skills with young people from Boys Ranch and Girlstown.

Virginia had a sharp mind for games and was especially fond of bridge. She was always ready for a pickup game and enjoyed countless hours of fun playing with three generations of family and friends.

Her social spirit shone brightly through her long-standing involvement with Beta Sigma Phi. In 2023, she received one of her most cherished honors when she was named Chapter Sweetheart and awarded Miss Amicitia for all of Amarillo, a testament to the warmth and loyalty she extended to those around her.

She was literally swept off her feet by Stanley Martinez in the early 2000’s. An unlikely match but a stunning combination, a real life ‘Beauty and the Beast’. They married in October 2006 and lived happily. Stanley was her grand protector and gave his life to save hers in 2017.

She is lovingly remembered by her daughter Joan Arnold-Roksandich; son-in-love Art Arnold Roksandich; and granddaughter Allison Arnold-Roksandich; sister by choice, Crystal Rieger;  and bonus daughters Jami Haywood, Tracy Adams-Martin, and Vickie Wheeler, as well as  many other family and friends whom she held close to her heart.

Virginia was known for her independent nature and creative flair. Fiercely loyal to her friends,  she loved entertaining and made sure her home was always filled with laughter, good food,  great friends and family, and joyful celebration. May Virginia’s memory bring comfort to those  who knew her and continue to inspire creativity, generosity, and joy in all who were touched by  her remarkable life.

Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at Lighthouse Funeral Home, 3707 Wolflin Ave., Amarillo, Texas
